The 1941 Meridian City Directory shows Jas D Berry and Beulah I living at 921 35th Avenue. Also living there are M Aubrey (who is working as a cook at The Triangle), Mildred R (who is a mill worker), and Joyce A. Bruce would have been 13, even if the directory were written before his death, he would not be listed.
Linda Faye Harmon Oliver, speaking about her grandmother, wrote, "She, [Beulah Idrew] would pinch the fire out of you if you talked in church. She would also pinch her brother Seburn when he fell asleep in church, which he did often. I only heard her say one bad work in my life, and that is when she was getting supper on the table and had poured up a big bowl of butterbeans and dropped them on her foot. She said, "Well d*@#. I laughed till I though she was going to whip me. I was grown at the time. "Another thing I remember about her is that she could make food go further than anybody I know. You would think you weren't going to get enough to eat, but we always did. There was always plenty. She loved her Coca-cola. She would not ever drink a whole glass of coke at a time, but she thought she had to have a little coke before she went to bed. She loved persimmons. Her sister-in-law, Margaret Berry Flurry, had a persimmon tree, and Grandma Berry arranged to visit when the fruit was in season. Sometimes she'd have to shoo the hogs away from the tree before she could get any."
Kenneth Harmon said that "Grandma Berry" was a very religious person. She was a devout Baptist, and the pastor could know that he had her full support. Sometimes a new pastor has to contend with people who prefer the way the previous pastor did things. She would say he (the new one) is my pastor now. In the winter she would piece together quilts. They lived in Piercy Springs, Mississippi in a house put together by wood pegs. A fire started in the kitchen, and the house burned to the ground and they lost everything except a table and the mattresses which they threw out a window , and a swing and a double rocker which had been sitting on the porch. Their sons Aubrey and Osborne were in the service, and their daughters Millie and "Bener" were still in school at the time. They kept chickens and always had eggs; even during the Depression years, they had chi cken on Sundays. According to Kenneth, they had moved to Meridian to be near Mattie Hearsey Hospitial which was a charity hospital then. Grandpa Berry suffered with equilibrium problems, he would suffer spells of dizziness, sometimes worse than others.
According to Jackie, Millie's Daughter, he had wasted most of the families money paying a "quack chiropractor" in Piercy Springs, but the family had not moved to be near Mattie Hearsey; the family moved to Meridian so that the girls could go to work in the hosery mill. "He taught me [Kenneth] how to whistle. As I started thinking about him, I realized that most of who I am, I learned from him." James Berry made little wooden windmills and sold them for about $8.00. No one in the family has one, but Kenneth described two of them. One had two men who, when the wind blew it, would saw on a log. On another, he had carved horses in a galloping postion which would run when the wind blew.

Note:
Some researchers continue to make the disproven assertion that
David's father was German Berry and that his mother was Susannah
Bailes.
Most of what I know about this family I know from gravestones and census records. The information on James Leggett Berry came from Ancestry.com. Barbara Oliver of Hattiesburg , MS who posted the information on James L. Berry also listed that Father's middle name was Eli and that mother's maiden name was Fairley. After reading this information, I found the 1850 census record showing David and family in the household of Archibald Fairley. It is an assumption that if Sarah's maiden name is Fairley that this would be her father. Robert Lee "Bob" Davis also shows Sarah's father as Archibald Fairley.
Also it you look at the census records you see another puzzle.
David's wife changes names and ages so it made me wonder if it
were one person or two. In 1850 she is Sally born about 1826; in
1860 she is Sarah born about 1830; in 1870 her name is hard to
read but is probably Sarah born about 1820; in 1880 her name is
Sally (again) born in 1820. It is important to note,
however, that Sally was often a nickname for Sarah.
One other puzzle is this: the 1880 census is the first to show
parents' places of birth. David E. Berry, born in North Carolina,
shows his parents born in Mississippi as does Sally. This is
highly doubtful. Also, there is a group of Berrys from North
Carolina descended from John Berry. The names David and German
are very common in this family, which is from North Carolina and
moved to Rankin Co, Mississippi around 1819. I have been in touch
with researchers of this line and although we have been unable to
find the connection, all parties involved agree that there is
probably a link.
One last note: One source I uncovered states that David Berry
died in the Battle of Shiloh.
Although there was a David Berry who fought and died with the 6th
Miss. Inf. The fact that our David E Berry appears on the 1870
and 1880 Censuses with his family proves that it is not our David
E. Berry.
If the 1850 and 1870 census records are correct these Berrys moved to Mississippi in 1849 shortly after Margaret was born.

Eli married Ann (Anna) (maiden name most likely is Fairley). Eli and Ann had Ashton Leggett Berry born in 1824. If David E. Berry (Middle name Eli??) is Ashton's brother than these are also his parents. In Eli's will, he left money to his 2 Jackson grandchildren. It is believe that Harriet is the child of one of these grandchildren. Which in turn would make Harriet , Leggett's niece.
The 1860 Richmond County Census has Leggett living with John Fairley's family. He is listed as Overseer. This is all I have on the Fairley family......for now. Eli Berry is listed in the 1850 Richmond County Slave Schedule, it is believe that at this time he is already deceased. Ann must have listed herself as Eli Berry at the time."

"SCHOLARS IN SCHOOL DISTRICT #17 MARCH 1842
1842 March 21. The following exhibits a list of the Children in
District No.17 in the County of Richmond of five and under twenty
one years of age. Viz. The names and number of all such white
Children as taken by your Committee elected for said District.
Archibald McQueen, James Stewart and A[rchibald?] Fairley."

"Archibald Fairley, James Fairley, Sarah Fairley, Matthew
Fairley, Mary Fairley, Margaret Fairley, Flora Fairley, Effy
Fairley, Ann Fairley, and Catherine Fairley. Some of these
children would certainly be cousins. Not listed are Jennett
Fairley (who could have been age 4) and Martha Fairley (but this
could be Mary
Martha.)
To further confuse matters the 1836 Tax Roll Jackson Co., MS lists an Archibald Fairley and a James Fairley.
There were at least 4 Archibald Fairleys living in the same areas at the same time. Our Archibald's father, two (or more) nephews and a cousin. More than one moved from South Carolina to Southern Mississippi (George & Jackson counties).
