Cookie (The picture shown above)

Cookie is a Citron Cockatoo that we rescued. She once belonged to an elderly woman living in a nursing home where she was greatly loved and recieved lots of attention. After the woman passed away Cookie went to live with her daughter that had two kids, and very little time to spend with Cookie. Cookie used to be a very beautiful bird when she was living with the elderly woman at the nursing home. But when she came to live with the daughter she was not getting the attention she had been accustomed to, so she started plucking her feathers to show how unhappy she was. The trick to behavior modification is not to let the behavior go on too long. With Cookie this behavior was left unchecked for many years, and as a result she plucked so badly that she damaged the feather folicles. So herein lies the danger of not correcting the behaviors when they first start. Cookie now lives with a good friend of ours (Nix, in Chicago), where she has really blossomed. She is a very loving bird, and has found a loving companion in Nix. She is one of our success stories for our Parrot Rescue, and we are so happy that they found each other.
