Alte Roite

Six ancient wizards imprisoned within the Castle of The Cleft Dimension's dungeon in the 1992 Squaresoft Final Fantasy V Super Famicom video game. Forget any thoughts you might have of taking pity on the trapped conjurers and freeing them: these curmudgeons have no concept of gratitude and will enthusiastically attack anything or anyone that has the audacity to set foot inside their cells. To make matters worse, his outward, humanoid appearance is actually a clever sham--Alte Roite's true form is that of the terrible sky wyrm, Jura Aevis (which doubtlessly explains why someone thought it was a good idea to lock these guys up in the first place). After suffering a sufficient amount of injury in battle, the old man will trade his skin for scales and make things very unpleasant indeed for his opponent(s). Luckily, these incarcerated mages represent optional boss fights and can be avoided entirely if the player so desires (there are treasure chests inside the cages they inhabit, but, if you're quick on your feet, and avoid physical contact with the old codgers, you can get the contents without a confrontation).
