Will you buy anything with the Final Fantasy name on it? Square's marketing department thought so...

(SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu)

Fungus

Sentient mushrooms found in numerous locations throughout Squaresoft's 1990/1991 Final Fantasy Legend II Nintendo Gameboy video game [Japanese name "SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu" (SaGa 2: Legend of The Secret Treasure)]. All known species are resistant to paralysis. This family of monsters can exhibit a wide range of offensive capabilities, including: Punch, Poison, Sleeping Gas, Blind, Bash, and Fatal Gas (while the lowly Fungus can only punch, the powerful Shiitake and Toadstool variations possess all six of these attacks). If another monster devours the "meat" of one of these fungi, it will transform into a different creature type/class--whether the change will be a beneficial one or not depends on the "strength" of the meal in relation to the eater (i.e., generally speaking, a weak monster that consumes the flesh of a superior creature will transform into something more impressive, while a strong monster that dines on an inferior beast will suffer a downgrade).

The enemies Fungus (45 HP), Mushroom (248 HP), Champignon (324 HP), Shiitake (731 HP), and Toadstool (858 HP)--respective Japanese names: Enokimodoki, Shiitake, Shimejimodoki, Maitakemodoki, and Matsutakemodoki--all share the same game sprite. As the original Gameboy lacks the colors to provide adequate contrast between monsters that use identical artwork (as is commonly the practice in video games), these fungi are indistinguishable in appearance.
