Skorp

Arthropods found on the planet SR388. Their "disk saw" appendages make them unique amongst similar species found in other star systems. When another creature draws near, a Skorp will suddenly lunge forth from its concealed lair, where it has been patiently waiting, strike, and then quickly retreat back out of sight. During the attack, the teeth on the Skorp's circular arms sink into the body of its prey and then rotate inward, drawing torn tissue towards the Skorp's hungry mouth - all of this takes place in the blink of an eye. If the victim doesn't withdraw immediately, the Skorp will attempt to feed again. These ambushers spend the majority of their lives within the safety of their lairs, only venturing out into the open to mate or to dig a new home when prey becomes scarce in the current location. As they are not territorial, it's not unusual to encounter several Skorps living in close proximity to one another; an unfortunate victim may flee from one Skorp only to run straight into the clutches of another burrowed nearby.
