Barnaul, Russia

Upon arriving in Russia in the summer of 2003, our team spent a few days in Barnaul getting to know our Russian co-teachers, recovering from jet lag, and preparing to go to the camp. We also spent an extra day here on the way back so that we could shop for souvenirs.

Barnaul is situated near the Ob River, which was surprisingly huge.

Barnaul has a large memorial to honor the sons who gave their lives in World War II, which the Russians call the Great Patriotic War. Most Russian cities have at least one such memorial, and it's an important part of the town.
