Kagome is the leading female character in the series. She goes through
the
magical well to the Feudal Era of Japan, 500 years before present-time.
She
meets Inuyasha and joins up with him after accidentally shattering the
powerful Shikon Jewel with her arrow.
She is the reincarnation of Kikyo, a priestess who (in the Feudal Era)
died
50 years ago after sealing Inuyasha to a tree. Like Kikyo, Kagome is a
priestess and has sacred powers. She was also born with the Shikon
jewel
inside her, which was released when she first came to the Feudal Era.
She is
valued among many of the enemies they encounter on their journey
because of
her spiritual powers, most important of them being her ability to sense
the
shards of the Shikon Jewel.
Kagome has quite the following of guys, what with Kouga of the wolf
demon
tribe, and Hojo, a boy back home, being obsessed with her. Kagome,
however,
is only interested in Inuyasha.
