Personal review of "Rulin' The Earth" (1985)
|
This was the last STEELER album I've heard and
maybe it was right because after it I wouldn't have the guts to listen to any of their records
at all. I would be disappointed! This is the bext one the band recorded, it has everything
a heavy metal fan is waiting for - bombastic, mid-tempo and ballad tracks, nice melodies and
(the weakest point of STEELER at that time) interesting lyrics. Whatever you expect is all here.

Intro "The Resolution" brings a listener
into the dark world of heavy metal. The following "Rulin' The Earth" is an up-tempo
epic showing extensive power of band-members and their evolution in the music world. The next
"Shellshock" is a real German shock to the system of rock'n'roll established by
British and American groups of the same genre. Bass intro to mid-tempo "Let The Blood Run
Red" can be considered the unique one for not so many bands did it at the time. Balladesque
"Heading For The End" provides frustrated influence and its lyrics remind a bit of METALLICA
"Fade To Black"-like feelings.

The B-side starts with one of the fastest songs
in the band's repertoire "Maniac". You're surely to be grounded by melodies and speed
of the track! "Run With The Pack" is much more traditional heavy metal track but the
idea behind it very strong and positive. Track "S.F.M. 1" is an instrumental written by all band members except the singer. You think the final "Turning Wheels" is about life
on the road? Wrong!!! It's just about life which is like turning wheels that might stop at some
point in time.

Summary: The true masterpiece! Natural development
of the first album and definitely best one the band ever did! Unfortunately remains a
collector's item for NEVER released on CD. What a shame!!!
