Play-offs Finally Here
Week 14 has arrived and with it comes the Fumblaya Fumblerooski play-offs. For most teams last weeks games were just a battle for position and money, but there were some games at the bottom that meant something. However, falling short, BigDogDestroyers and Jo Mammy were eliminated leaving us our play-off line-up.
Rams66 (8-4-1) vs. Drunken Dwarfs (5-8)
Despite starting three Bungals, Jon Kitna, Chad Johnson, and Peter Warrick, Rams66 ended the season on top and won a whopping $25 and the right to play the eighth seed. All three Bungals play rival Baltimore, whose defense has been outstanding this year. Olichwier's other wide receiver, Tai Streets didn't even show up last week, but plays a pathetic Arizona team, who happened to beat the Packers. (LOSERS) His backs are something to be scared of. Record holder Jamal Lewis plays a lousy Bengals run defense while Clinton Portis runs against a KC defense that is tops in the AFC. Alge Crumpler should see a boost in his stats with the return of Vick. Drunken Dwarfs, on the other hand, have several nice match-ups. First, however, they have Jake Plummer going against the afore mentioned KC defense and Tim Brown playing a depleted Pittsburgh pass defense. Brown, unfortunately, plays for the Raiders, who boast some Mirer guy as their QB. He wasn't even good when he played for Notre Dame. They then break out the big guns. Chris Chambers, who caught three TD's last week, goes up against a New England defense that let four touchdowns beat them through the air last week, and Bobby Engram goes up against a brutal Vikings defense. Ahman Green and Marshall Faulk play bad teams as Green hosts Chicago and their terrible defense while Faulk travels to Cleveland on Monday night. Advantage: Drunken Dwarfs.
SackUpAndGoDeep (8-4-1) vs. Bovine University (5-8)
SackUpAndGoDeep is the league's unlikely hero as he scratched his way to second in the league under the wings of Matt Hasselbeck and Amani Toomer. Hasselbeck plays a putrid Vikings defense and Brinkman also carrys Shaun Alexander against the Vikings this week. Toomer gets to play a Washington defense that has had it's ups and downs this season, while Rod Smith steps into the Kansas City pass defense. Az-Zahir Akim? Does that guy even play anymore? He does for Brinkman's team. Jerry Rice and Joey Galloway ride the bench, but Rice, who caught his first TD last week, plays Pittsburgh and Galloway matches up against Philly. Moe Williams, SackUp's work horse, hosts Seattle and can hopefully steal some more goaline touches again this week. Bovine University hopes otherwise as he starts Michael Bennett against Seattle. Peyton Manning anchors this team with Torry Holt, the leagues best receiver stat wise, helping to boost the wide receiver section. Eddie Kennison is helped out by a exploding Trent Green, but plays a tough Denver defense, while Javon Walker, a recent addition, plays "da Bears" and hopes that Favre learns how to throw it to his own team for a change. Like the Bears could catch it. Back-up running back, Marcel Shipp, hopes to add some points as he plays a not so good Niners defense. This one's close, but playing the Vikings helps out a lot. Advantage: SackUpAndGoDeep
Flogged (8-5) vs. Balsam Lake Minnows (7-6)
On the heels on his four game winning streak, Flogged catapulted to the league lead in points, and third place, by beating rival Dirtcutters a couple weeks back. His 158 points last week set a new Fumbalaya Fumblerooski single game scoring record. Flogged did most of his scoring with a badly drafted team. He recovered with some timely free agent pick-ups and multiple trades. His quarterback, Chad Pennington, whom he picked up after Pennington was reactivated, has done nothing but create points. Before Pennington, Kerry Collins lifted Flogged to several 100+ point totals throughout the season. Pennington plays a broken down Buffalo defense that began the season with a bang but has slowly faded. Isaac Bruce plays Cleveland and Jimmy Smith travels to Houston, who is still celebrating last week's win. Reggie Wayne is up against a tough Titans defense, but not being the top receiver may help him this week. Priest Holmes goes against Denver, but does it really matter who this guy plays? Deuce McAllister, acquired in a trade with Big Pimpin, has rattled off 100 yard games left and right since moving to Flogged and looks to continue against a Bucs defense that should be good, but is streaky. Tony Gonzalez has scored touchdowns in his last two games and helped Flogged grow his points lead over the rest of the league. He's Trent Green's favorite target and looks to score again this week while Denver tries to figure out a way to stop Priest. Flogged plays the Balsam Lake Minnows, who no one even thought would make the play-offs (he roots for the Bears, but loves the Vikings secretly). Well, he has Trent Green as his QB and Green has been on a tear lately giving up his first interception in the last three games last week, but scoring 8 touchdowns in the same span. Olichwier's receivers are ugly at best. Laveraneus Coles is his best one and he plays the Giants. Then, for some reason, Olichwier still has Anquan Boldin on his roster. He had two good games. He plays the Niners. Dennis Northcut fills in the other gap, but he plays a Rams defense that leads the league in take aways. Start Muhammad. Fred Taylor, who has rushed for over 1,000 yards this season, starts as one of Balsam's backs, but then Kevin Faulk starts as his other. Uh, New England doesn't run. Ever. Although Flogged's team and match-ups are nothing special except for Priest Holmes, he plays Balsam Lake. Advantage: Flogged
Dirtcutters (8-5) vs. Big P-I-M-P-I-M!!! (8-5)
Dirtcutters rank second in the league in points and it's a wonder they weren't on top. They boast the league's best reciving and running corps'. Their wide-outs are supported by Randy Moss and Terrell Owens and go as deep as Justin McCareins, who has been extrmely hot as of late, and Andre Davis. Their backs include LaDainian Tomlinson, Curtis Martin, Rudi Johnson, and Shawn Bryson. L.T. and Martin get the starts this week as L.T. plays Detroit and Martin plays Buffalo. Moss matches up against Seattle and Owens gets Arizona, while McCareins has the toughest task of the three playing Indy. Big Pimpin starts Daunte Culpepper and even though the Vikings continue to lose, Culpepper continues to put up huge numbers. David Boston, who has seemingly emerged from his suckiness has caught touchdowns in several of his last five games and plays Detroit. Keenan McCardell plays New Orleans and Derrick Mason, who went off last week, plays a tough Indianapolis defense. Stephen Davis plays an Atlanta defense that ranks last in the NFC. Uh huh, one below the Vikings. I feel bad for Atlanta fans, but hey, at least Vick's coming back! James Jackson hits a pretty tough Rams defense, but they have been shaky and could give up some numbers on the ground. However, Polifka starts a Minnesota defense who's last in the league in passing yards allowed and is playing a team that has posted 30 or more points the last two weeks, which came mostly through the air. Although both teams are evenly matched in players, Dirtcutters have the edge in match-ups. If Pimpin gets rid of the Vikings defense this one could be closer. Advantage: Dirtcutters
The way the play-offs match up could give us some exciting games. Flogged and Dirtcutters, the two leading scorers, could meet in the Fumble Bowl. Each team has a chance, some more than others. But remember, it only takes one time to lose it all. It takes three times to win.
