The Pill can be used for a number of reasons. The primary reason is for contraceptive purposes, but it can also be used to regulate periods, lighten periods, reduce period pain, reduce acne and reduce facial and body hair. There are many different brands and types of pills, but basically, the Pill comprises of 21 hormone containing pills, and 7 placebo sugar pills.

You take the hormone pills for 21 days and then when you start to take the sugar pills, you get your period. Now depending on what kind of pill you are taking, you can take the hormone pills continuosly, therefore delaying your period. Eg, a friend I know was able to go 3 times around on the hormone pills, meaning she went 63 days without a period. Some doctors will try and tell you this isn't safe, these are usually the old fashion or male doctors, or those who have never been on the Pill.

If you find a female doctor who has been on the Pill herself, she will let you know this is perfectly safe. Eventually, if your body gets to the point where it needs to have a period, it will do it on its own, and hey, they're fake periods, so you may as well control them anyways, right?
