Add possible qualifiers/placers in Danny Genetin (103), Scott Rooney (112) and Dustin Shilling (189). And it’s reasonable to assume Perry is the favorite to repeat as sectional champions. Dolph cited Hartley, Straughn, Schlatter, Shilling and Genetin as wrestling great now, while Corey Nelson (152) and Devyn Hoffner (215) took home thirds at sectional last year. Dolph said New Philly has some outstanding individuals coming into the weekend. Jackson has Rini, Mike Filicky (119), Ben Johnson (125), Adam Haas (130) and Jared Tentler (135) highly touted by Brakeman, and the Polar Bears may give Perry its best challenge. Dolph said GlenOak’s victory over his team showed anything is possible.“We are not looking at any team,” he said. “We want our kids to focus on what they need to do.”
Dolph is looking forward to returning to his alma mater. “I like that gym. It’s set up nice for tournaments,” he said. “Plus, it’s my old school. It will be nice having the Division II (tournament) there too. It’s good for fans.” Yes, fans should enjoy it. Federal League outsiders, though, are not as likely to enjoy their time in North Canton, when it could be spent at a weaker sectional.
