"Project Writers Unite"
Accomplishments
I feel that it is important to acknowledge the work we do as a group. Therefore,
I'm dedicatindg this section of our website to the wonderful accomplishments of
the club.
- Monday, September 15, 2003 The very first meeting of Project
Writers Unite. It was a nice success.
- Saturday, December 13, 2003 Only a month in existence, The
Oakland-East Bay Gay Men's Chorus asks our writers to help create vignettes
for their Christmas concert. This was our first collaboration with any group.
We succeeded beyond our wildest dreams. The vignettes went over well with
both the chorus and the audience.
- Monday, September 20, 2004 After all the ups and downs of
the year, we still managed to see our first anniversary. The party we had
on the 20th was small but very well received. The dinner was great and the
reading was excellent. Here's hoping that we can see the next year through
with even more success.
- Monday, March 21, 2005 In keeping with our club objective,
to give writers a place to find help and/or resources to get their work out
to the world, Project Writers Unite, in association with Arts First Oakland,
came together to put on a series of readings for New/Beginning writers called
The Coffeehouse Reading Series. We premiered this new venture on the 21st.
The intimate gathering of people combined with the great talent of the readers
presenting that night made for a excellent event and a great start for the
rest of the series.
- Monday, April 25, 2005 Project Writers Unite appied for our
first grant this year. Although we didn't get it. we were one of the finalist.
I want to thank all the people that helped us get that far on our first grant
application and I'm looking forward to the day when we can say we got the
grant.
- Sunday, July 17, 2005 Arts First Oakland, the parent organization
that houses PWU, had its second Art Warming, an event that invites all of
its collaborator to share their work with each other. We at PWU were honored
to represent the club at this year's Art Wraming with a fun presentation of
theater and music. We are glad that we had the opprotunity to give back to
the oragnization that has given so much to us.
- Monday, July 18, 2005 Our second installment of The Coffeehouse
Reading Series has exceeded even my own expectations. All the creative writing
mediums were represented and thje quality of the work was superb. I feel that
this reading will set the benchmark for not just our next Coffeehouse Reading
but for all other future PWU Events.
- Monday, September 19, 2005 This marks the end of our second
anniversary. The party we had was larger than the party last year. The dinner
was great and the reading was excellent. As we start planning for another
year of fabulous events, we hope that we'll see another year through with
momentous success.
- Sunday, November 5, 2006 Our Parent organization, Arts First
Oakland, invite us to their annual "Share The Music" celebration. This was
the first time PWU manned an info table at a major event. Along several other
collaborators, we were able to share our talents and our group's message to
a very receiving audience.
- Monday, October 16, 2006 This marks the date of pur third
anniversary dinner. The party we had was well attended. The dinner was excellent
as always. As we start planning for another fabulous year, we hope that we'll
see another year through with momentous success.
- Monday, September 17, 2007 This was our fourth anniversary
dinner celebration, and a number of new members attended as well as our founder
and a few of our veterans. The dinner was outstanding, and participation was
excellent, new members and old bringing in projects as we celebrated and planned
for another fantastic year.
