STAGE AND SHOP SAFETY RULES

DRESS PROPERLY - No loose clothing, no open toed shoes, no bare feet at any time! Shirts must be worn. All loose jewelry must be removed. Long hair must be tied back.

USE PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT - This includes goggles, ear protection, dust masks.

NEVER USE A TOOL YOU RAVE NOT BEEN TRAINED TO USE - Ask for supervision and you will be shown how to use the tool properly.

REPORT ALL ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES IMMEDIATELY TO STAGE MANAGER -
It does not matter how minor the injury, report it.

REPORT DAMAGE OR PROBLEMS WITH TOOLS IMMEDIATELY.
DISCONTINUE USE -  Never use a broken tool. Do Not put a broken tool into the tool cabinet. Never Try To Repair A Tool Yourself

DO NOT CARRY TOOLS BY THE ELECTRICAL CORD

NEVER YANK THE ELECTRICAL CORD TO DISCONNECT FROM THE POWER SOURCE.

USE THE RIGHT TOOL - Never force a small tool or attachment to do the job of a heavy-duty tool. Don't use a tool for a purpose it was not intended

DO NOT FORCE A TOOL

DISCONNECT TOOLS WHEN NOT IN USE,  BEFORE SERVICING, OR CHANGING ACCESSORIES SUCH AS BLADES, BITS, CUTTERS
        - Accidental start up can cause severe injury.

BE CERTAIN THAT ADJUSTING KEYS AND WRENCHES ARE REMOVED BEFORE STARTING TOOL

AVOID UNINTENTIONAL STARTING - Don't carry a live tool with a finger on the trigger. Be sure switch is off when plugging in.

STAY ALERT - watch what you are doing and be aware of the activity around you. Be aware of potential hands around your work area.

DO NOT OVERREACH - Keep proper footing and balance at all times.

KEEP SCRAP AND DEBRIS OFF THE FLOOR - Periodically stop to clean your work area. Sawdust accumulation can cause the floor to become slippery, increasing the possibility of accidents.

CLEAN AND RETURN TOOLS TO THEIR PROPER STORAGE AREA IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOU RAVE FINISHED USING THEM.

CLEAN YOUR WORK AREA IMMEDIATELY BEFORE PROCEEDING TO NEXT PROJECT

NEVER OBSTRUCT FIRE EXTINGUISHER - Keep material a safe distance so that fire extinguisher is easily accessible in emergency.

KEEP EXITS CLEAR - This is particularly important during work hours and during the run of a show.

INSURE ALL LADDERS ARE SECURELY FOOTED BEFORE CLIMBING - Never
work on a ladder that is unstable. Never place ladders close to the edge of a platform. Have
ladder footed if on an uneven surface.

NEVER OPERATE MACHINERY WITHOUT SUPERVISION - Stage manager must be in the shop/stage area.

REPORT ANY POTENTIAL HAZARDS TO THE STAGE MANAGER IMMEDIATELY
- If you see any situation or activity in the shop that you believe to be unsafe notify the stage manager immediately.

ABSOLUTELY NO HORSEPLAY! -  If you are you will be asked to stop only once. If it takes twice you will be asked to leave or if it is during class time you will end up in ICR (the equivalent of in-school detention).

DO NOT OPERATE THE COUNTERWEiGHT SYSTEM IF YOU ARE NOT TRAINED TO DO SO

DO NOT LOAD OR UNLOAD WEIGHTS ON THE COUNTERWEIGHT SYSTEM WITHOUT WARNING THE PEOPLE DOWN ON THE DECK - You must yell out, loud enough so people can hear what you are doing (unloading, loading ) and what line set you are working on.

DO NOT FLY A LINE SET IN OR OUT WITHOUT CALLING IT FIRST - Yell out loud enough to be heard what you are doing (flying a line set in or out ) and the line set number.

IF PANTING WASH OUT YOUR BRUSH BEFORE BEGINNING A NEW
PROJECT - The sink is located in the custodial closet in the courtyard.
 MAKE SURE THE CUSTODIAL CLOSET IS CLEAN AT ALL TIMES - This includes
the tool cabinet floor and sink.

IF YOU MAKE A MESS IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO CLEAN IT UP - Your
peers and myself are not here to clean up after you.

NO FIGHTING BETWEEN EACH OTHER - You are all part of a team that is working toward a common goal, fighting only causes unnecessary tension for everybody.
 

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO LEARN ABOUT TECHNICAL THEATRE
AND TO HAVE FUN AT THE SAME TIME. THIS IS A FUN JOB BUT BE AWARE -
IT IS ALSO HARD WORK. ALL I ASK IS FOR YOU TO GIVE BEST AT
WHATEVER JOB YOU ARE ASSIGNED. GOOD LUCK!!
 

 Counterweight System Rules and Guidelines

1. Absolutely No Horseplay.

2. Do Not use the system if you are not trained to do so.

3. Always call out the line number and what is on the line before flying in or out, and wait for a response that it is clear.

4. Never pull the hand line without releasing the rope lock.

5. When loading weights at any of the upper levels, call out the line number and whether you are loading or unloading weights from that line.

6. Make sure there are safety plates for every two feet of weights (about every ten)

7. Always tighten the top safety plate when done loading or unloading the arbor.

8. When the line is out of weight make sure to tie the hand line off when working on it.

9. While running a line, watch below for any interference with the baton and watch the area in the fly loft so the baton will not get caught. If either of these happen STOP until it is clear.

10. When you run a line look, feel and listen for irregularities.
