If you wanna talk about Ultra-running in the 1st State......
then you gotta talk about Hunt Bartine & John Mackenzie and their incredible group of dedicated ultra-runners. While da' Slugs have been here (sat down --- and dug in)this state, for only a few short years (though we're here for the duration----of time) , the Trail Dawgs have been do-in it for many years in the first state. I, as an UR & RD, have been privileged to have been around this sport(sic) for nearly 20 years, and in that time have seen a lot of good/bad and coming & going in the sport of UR. I assure you that the Trail Dawgs; like TSI, are here for the duration. It has been a great privilege for Team Slug to come into the First State and be treated like the UR brothers/sisters that we are. Team Slug is dedicated to the preservation of the "Trail Dawgs" and will fully support their each and every endeavor.

The State May be Small in Size......
But, there is no shortage of opportunity for running competitively, or for exercise/leisure/comraderie, in this state. From the Dover Mile, to a 100-mile run, if you're up for a challenge then you should visit this beautiful region of the Mid-Atlantic states. From the incredibly well-organized Delaware Marathon in Wilmington, to the irreverant, yet charming Trail Dawgs & Slugs, all levels of running ability & experience are represented. A runner could find a wide variety of surfaces and surroundings to challenge themselves with. One could easily awaken to an early morning trail run in one of the scenic state parks, and still make it to the warm coastal sands of Rehobeth in time for some fries on the boardwalk. If interested in visiting the state as a runner, or just to enjoy the wide variety of cultural & family activities please visit the State of Delaware Official Website. |
At the First-Ever Delaware 100 mile run....
...late on Saturday evening, the 17th of December---and direct from China, visiting Delaware as a missionary was Ju JongSun (at far left); with Newark natives Kim and Bob Bell. They were out after dinner enjoying the clear sky and beautiful full moon when they stumbled across the Delaware 100 mile Aid Station. Being "good eggs" the volunteers treated the race guests to some genuine South Korean Coffee. They also shared good will and friendship. This all just goes to prove that with technology and travel today, we live in a small world. And, that is a fantastic thing. And, finally, can you really go anywhere in the world these days and not bump into the Hash House Harriers. If unfortunately you are one of those runners so inclined, please contact the Hockessin H3. The Devil Woman sounds like a good time!!! |
