Building the PegaStol Wings
Ribs, page 2
Don't forget the tail ribs.
Ok now you have all your ribs, slat mechanisms, main spar and rear spar. Corrosion protection is a matter of preference, see my page on construction tips. I coated the main spar and rear spar.
My first suggestion is to drill out every piloted hole to 3/32". You will need to see through them.
On the back of all the ribs, that is the part that is riveted to the spars, draw a center line. It is not necessary to draw the lines on the tops or bottoms of the ribs at this time.
Next secure the main rib down to your table like the picture below.
See the little wooden blocks, I nailed them down all along the spar on both sides. And, notice I set the ribs with a square.
Setting all the ribs is a long multi-step process. Start with a nose rib, square it, on the end of the main spar, drill and cleco it from the spar side. Take it off, put a main rib on the same station on the back side. Drill and cleco it. Now take it off, put the nose and the main rib back on and sandwich the spar between them and cleco. Use the same method all the way down the main spar and the rear spar.
Important, see that 1 1/4" hole on the front of the main ribs, that is the bottom of the wing.
Don't forget the cut outs on nose ribs for stations 0 and 8, use stainless steel rivets on station 0, use A5 rivets on the top and bottom and A4 rivets in the middle of each of the other rib stations.
That's all it is to it, in a couple of days it can look like this.
