Descendants of John Elias
and Ann Maddocks

John Elias and Ann Maddocks had four children. They were:

  • Catherine M. Elias (1875-1955) was the first child of John and Ann Elias. She was born at Swansea, Glamorgan County, Wales. She married John David Miller (1871-1955) in 1893 at Jinny Lind, Arkansas. He was a coal miner in Arkansas and Oklahoma. She is buried at Kansas City, Kansas.
    Catherine and John David Miller had six children. These were:
    1) John Lewellen Miller (b.1894). He was born in Arkansas and married Elizabeth “Bess” Evelyn Barrick (b. 1897) in 1914. They had two children, both born at Midland, Arkansas. These were: Helen J. Miller (1915-1969), who married David John Leighton. The second child was Katheryne (Kathryn) Howard Miller (b. 1917). She married first John David Leighton in 1938 and then James Picola in 1953). Katheryne had three children
    2) Anna Howard Miller (b. 1897). She was born in Jinny Lind, Arkansas and married Clayton Fiser in 1914. Later she married Clyde Wesley Carter (1895-1961). She had one child, Ruth Ferne Fiser (b. 1915), who was born at Midland, Arkansas, which is near Fort Smith, and married Joseph Clois Frick in 1915. Ed Terrar, Jr. visited the Fricks in 1940 when he went to Kansas City to pick up a Buick for his dad, who was selling cars at the time. On that visit Ed also visited Ruth’s grandmother, Catherine Elias Miller. At the time of Ed’s visit in 1940 Joseph Frick was in the banking business. Ruth and Joseph Frick had two children: Judith Ann Frick (b. 1940) and Joseph Carter Frick (b. 1946). Both children were born in Kansas City, Missouri. Ruth was living in Witchita, Kansas in 1970 and had a great interest in the family history.
    3) Evan Miller (1900-1940). He married Clara Riedl (d. 1961), who was born in Germany. They had no children. He took his own life and is buried in Kansas City, Missouri.
    4) David Robert Miller (1901-1965). He was born in Arkansas and married Angie. He is buried at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
    5) Raymond Thomas Miller (b. 1904). He was born in Arkansas. He married Grace Turner in 1925. They had three children, all born in Kansas City, Missouri. These were Raymond Thomas Miller (b. 1926), who married Dorthy Grace Green in 1949 at Long Beach, California. He was in the Navy in World War II. Raymond and Grace’s second child was Kenneth Dee Miller, who married Louise Charles. He was in the Korean War. The third child was Donald Leon Miller, who married Jo Anne Miller.
    6) Marguerite Miller (b. 1910). She was born at Midland, Arkansas and married Jimmy Call in 1946. They had no children.
  • Sarah Elias (1876-1878)was the second child of John and Ann Elias. She is buried at Columbus, Kansas.
  • Martha Elias (1878-1974) was the third child of John and Ann Elias. She was born at Aberdare (Glamorgan County) Wales. She married John Taylor Bailey in 1897. He was a salesman. Martha is buried at Rest-Haven Memorial Park, Eugene, Oregon.
    Martha and John Bailey had eight children. These were:
    1) John Edwin Bailey, born 1898 at Pittsburg, Kansas. He married Elise McDowall in 1941. He attended the University of Oregon and was a teacher, as was his wife.
    2) Kathryn Ann Bailey (1900-1980), was born at Pittsburg, Kansas. She married David Faville in 1932. She is buried at Palo Alto, California. She attended the University of Oregon. Her husband was a professor at Leland Stanford University. He was also an exchange professor in Europe. They had one son, Donald David Faville (1934-1964). He attended Stanford University and was a friend of Lindberg’s son. Donald died at Bangkok, Thailand and is buried at Alta Mesa Cemetery in Palo Alto, California.
    3) William Earl Bailey (1903-1964), was born at Lawton, Oklahoma, married Anne Janis in 1934 and is buried at Eugene, Oregon. He was a meat salesman. At one point he had an orchestra and did quite well. William Earl and Anne had two children, Barbara Bailey and Joan Bailey.
    4) Harold Emerson Bailey was born in 1905 at Dietz, Wyoming, married Fern Hostick in 1926 and is buried at Eugene, Oregon. They had one child, Harold Bailey, who in turn had four children.
    5) Helen Juanita Bailey was born in 1907 at Fort Smith, Arkansas. She did not marry.
    6) Roger Virgil Bailey was born in 1909 at Fort Smith, Arkansas. He went to the University of Oregon and married Dorris Holmes in 1936 and is buried at Seattle, Washington. They had two children, Roger Bailey and John Kent Bailey.
    7) Harvey Windsor Bailey was born in 1913 at Klein, Montana and married Frances Shults in 1943. They adopted two children, Janice Bailey and Deborah Bailey. In 1974 Harvey Windsor had died, but his widow, Frances Bailey was living in San Diego, California, where he had lived.
    8) Gordon Vern Bailey was born in 1919 at Lavina, Montana. He attended the University of Oregon and married Thelma Allyn in 1944 and is buried at Palo Alto, California. They had two children, Thomas Gordon Bailey (b. 1945) and Nancy Anne Bailey (b. 1948).
  • Rachael Elias (1885-1964) was the fourth child of John and Ann Elias. She married Seth Thomas Moore in 1904. She is buried at Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was a grocery salesman. They had a son, Seth Harold Moore (d. 1965), was a laboratory technician. He married twice. The first marriage did not last long. The one was to Veda, who was a widow with a son named David. David took the name Moore., who took the Seth is pictured above with his mother and grandfather.
