Descendants of Margaret (Elias) Lee
and John C. Lee

Margaret (Elias) Lee and John C. Lee had six children. They were:

  • William J. Lee (1879-1945) was the first child of Margaret Elias and John Lee. He was born at Aberdare, Wales. He married Betsy Coop in 1910. He is buried at Chariton, Lucas County, Iowa. William was a miner. In 1930 he was mining at Williamson, Lucas County, Iowa. William and Betsy Lee had four children, all born at Buxton, Monroe County, Iowa. They were:
    1) John Lee (b. 1911) was a coalminer. He married Louise Stuart in 1939. They had two sons, both born in Williamson, Lucas County, Iowa. They are: Donald (b. 1940) and Robert Lee (b. 1943).
    2) William Lee, Jr. (b. 1913). He married Nelda Lemon in 1952. They had one child, Ann Lee.
    3) Esther Lee (b. 1917). She married Edward Masters in 1940. Edward was a miner. They had four children, the first two of whom were born at Williamson, Iowa and the second two at Des Moines, Iowa. The children were: Linda Masters, who married Lester Isley in 1962, Gerald Masters, Ellen Masters and Elizabeth Masters.
    4) Mary Ellen Lee (b. 1920). She married John Nichols in 1940. They had one child, which died at 8 months in 1941.
  • Martha Lee (1881-1952) was the second child of Margaret Elias and John Lee. She was born at Streeter, Illinois. She married Isaac “Ike” Williams in 1899. Martha Lee Williams is buried at Canon City, Colorado.
    Martha Lee The family of Ed Terrar, Jr. visited their first cousin, Martha Lee Williams and her family at Canon City, Colorado in August 1931. This is a picture that was taken on that trip. Left to right are: Rosemary Terrar, Opal Williams (Martha Lee Williams' fourth child), Margaret Gergen Terrar (wife of Ed Terrar, Sr.), Martha Lee Williams, young Edward Terrar, Jr and Mildred Terrar. The Terrars had a nice time. It looks like Margaret Terrar and Martha Williams had a similar taste in hats. In 1946 Ed and Margaret Terrar visited three of Ike and Martha’s daughters in Salinas, California. (V2-33-5.jpg).
    Ike and Martha Lee Williams had five children. They were:
    1) John Williams. He married and had children. He was living in Canon City, Colorado in 1970.
    2) May Williams, who married Albert McCartney. They live in Salinas, California.
    3) Margaret Williams, who married Franklin Dixon. They live in Salinas, California.
    4) Opal Williams, whose married name was Wickinden. Her husband worked at a men’s store in Salinas, California, where they lived.
    5) Martha Williams.
  • David Morgan Lee (1884-1963) was the third child of Margaret Elias and John Lee. He was born at Whatcheer, Iowa. He was a coal miner. He married Sarah Turner in 1907. He is buried at Chariton, Lucas County, Iowa. David Morgan and Sarah had three children. They were:
    1) Margaret Lee (1908-2003) was born at Mystic Iowa. She married Rolland Wilson Dunn in 1941. She is buried at Kearney, Nebraska.
    2) Amelia Genevieve Lee (b. 1913) was born at Bushnell, McDonough County, Illinois. She married John Edward Montgomery in 1932. They had two children: Mary Helen Montgomery (b. 1933) at Willamson, Iowa and Sally Rose Montgomery (b. 1941) at Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Leon R. Shearer in 1964. In turn Sally Rose and Leon had two children: Shawn Eric and Heidi Marie Shearer.
    3) David Morgan Lee (b. 1919). He was born at Buxton, Monroe County, Iowa. He married Iva Lucille Bisgard in 1943. They had three children, all born in Denver, Colorado. They were: Donna Lee (b. 1945), who married George Botsford Hollis in 1966. Donna and George visited the Edward Terrar, Jr. family in Washington, D.C. during the late 1960s. They now live at Montrose, Colorado. They had two children, who now have children of their own. The second child of David Morgan and Iva Lee is Linda Lee (b. 1951), whose husband is named Thomas. Cheryl Lee (b. 1955) is the third child. She obtained a masters degree in California in 2003.
  • Elizabeth Ann Lee (b.1886) was the fourth child of Margaret Elias and John Lee. She was born at Streeter, Illinois. She married John George Storey in 1913. He was a miner. They had a lovely home in Fort Smith, Arkansas. They had two children, both of whom were born at Hartford, Arkansas. These were:
    1) Jack Holbrook Storey (b 1916) never married. He was a strong mason, worked with the Boy Scouts and lived with his mother.
    2) Jesse Storey (1916-1919) is buried at Hartford, Arkansas.
  • Mary May Lee (1889-1962) was the fifth child of Margaret Elias and John Lee. She was born at Williamsburg, Colorado. She married Harry Turner. Her second husband was named Trubey. She is buried at Mystic, Apppanoose County, Iowa. She had three children by her first husband and two by her second husband. These were:
    1) Elizabeth Turner (b. 1915).
    2) Jessie Turner (b. 1919).
    3) Richard Turner (b. 1923).
    4) Catherine Trubey (b. 1931)
    5) Lois Trubey.
  • Sarah “Sadie” Lee (b. 1892) was the sixth child of Margaret Elias and John Lee. She was born at Williamsburg, Colorado. She married Oscar Roland (1889-1892) in 1913. He was born in Marchienne, Belgium and worked in the insurance business. He was burned to death in 1933 at a fire at a meat market in WhatCheer, Iowa. He is buried at Whatcheer. Ed Terrar, Sr. and his family went to the funeral. They stayed three or four days there. Sadie’s second husband was John Martin. Sadie and Oscar had two children. They were:
    1) Lee Roland (b. 1916) was born at Buxton, Iowa. He married Geneva Neal in 1941. They had two children, both born in Des Moines, Iowa. These were Sheila Roland (b. 1946) and Debra Roland (b. 1956).

    2) Ruth Roland (1922-2007). She was born at WhatCheer, Iowa and married first Willard Gifford in 1947. In 1990 she was living in Caney, Kansas. In 1995 she married Joseph Cavender.

    Ruth and her husband Willard had three children. These were: Judith Anne Gifford (b. 1949), born at Sigourney, Iowa. She married Michael Dickmeyer in 1968. They live in Omaha, Nebraska and have four children. One of those children, Timothy Dickmeyer, is with the Omaha Symphony. The second child of Ruth and Willard was Janice “Jan” Gifford (b. 1951). She was born at Topeka, Kansas. She married Charles Ebmeier. In the mid-2000s they were living at Hutchinson, Kansas and had two children: Zachery and Nicolee. The third child of Willard and Ruth Gifford was Edward Gifford (b. 1953). He was born at Topeka, Kansas. He married June and they had three children: Scott, Kimberly and Chris. Kimberly works for the Christian Missionary Alliance in Denver, Colorado.

    Ed Terrar and two unknown friends, Mystic Iowa mine As noted above, Margaret (Elias) Lee and John C. Lee had six children, including two sons, William and David Morgan Lee. The picture to the left is of Ed Terrar (in the middle) when he was mining at Mystic, Iowa in the early part of the 1910s. The two others in the picture are not identified. It was taken at the photographic office of J. E. Link, Centerville, Iowa. Ruth Gifford, who was a granddaughter of Margaret and John Lee, stated in 1990 that the men to the right and left of Ed Terrar in the picture were not the Lee boys. (V2-15-5.jpg).
