Cover

Explanation:

(From the English Preface)

"This edition of Le Fantome de l'Opera has been abridged and adapted especially for intermediate students of French. The most exciting scenes have been retained, so that none of the mystery and horror of the original is diminished. Difficult words and expressions have been simplified to promote ease of reading, while vocabulary notes at the bottom of the page and general French-English Vocabulary at the back of the book make this edition even more accessible to students. Exercises found at the end of every chapter test comprehension, build vocabulary, and encourage active writing and speaking in French."

In addition to the illustrations below, the book includes many black and white photographs from the movie starring Charles Dance, as well as a couple of Claude Raines, and one of Lon Chaney.
