The Truth About Santa
Santa Clause grins from a tall wooden chair
Decked all in red with lots of white wooly hair
He grins at the girls and he grins at the boys
Waves a large hand and holds out several toys
A child crawls onto his sizeable lap
Wearing knitted mittens and a little blue cap
He wiggles and giggles and asks for a bike
Santa says sure if he'll be a good tyke
He gives him a nice crunchy peppermint cane
As the little lad states "I live on Horsedrive Lane"
The boy slips from his lap and down to the floor
Then runs to his mother who stands by the door
Good old St. Nick gives a great hearty chuckle
Rearranges his beard and adjusts his big buckle
The announcement is made that the mall is now closing
The elf at his side wakes from his perpetual dozing
He helps to roll up the carpet of felt
Removes Santa's beard and hangs the big belt
Shines his big boots and ties up the laces
Avoiding the look on the children's faces
He works swiftly and well as they close up shop
Sweeping the floor and wringing the mop
Last of all things he closes the shutters
"Goodnight to ye' child'ren" he quietly mutters
The day is now ended and everything's done
Santa is glad that the kids had such fun
He walks to his car wearing a flannel and jeans
The side of his truck reads "The Business that Cleans"
For you see now that Santa is not quite so real
He's only a man who must work for his meal.
