Superstition January 2005

I Went to the desert for my 21st birthday to a place called Superstition. I liked it better than Glamis or Ocotillo because there were very few rangers, it wasnt crowded, and it had a big variety of terrain.
Check out the crazy midnight drunkeness with Booger doing some fire burnouts on his new YZ250

We took frequent beer and bathroom breaks durring the ride. Here we are at the radar antenna overlooking the navy bombing range. The blue angels were flying over head all morning practicing stunts and buzzing over us while we drank and gave them the shocker.

this flat was a result of sand getting in the tire bead, click here to see Phill driving the bug in the sand

I dont know if my driving ability was impared by the alcohol but this is what my bug looked like after I crashed into a sand trench going about 30 mph.
The impact was so sudden it caused my seat to slide all the way forward and i hit my nose on my hand and steering wheel. My friend was in the passenger seat when it ripped out of the floor and smashed his forhead on the windshield, shattering it, and impregnating glass into his skin. Luckily some off roaders saw us and gave us first aid supplies. It was right before sunset and it got dark fast. I was freezing without my jacket and my nose was still bleeding. Grahm had luckily been with us when we crashed so he raced back to camp on his dirtbike to get a truck to tow us back to camp. But he lagged so i decided to try driving back in the dark, which i did, verry slowly in 2nd gear looking through a cracked winshield. But Grahm, Booger, and lauren continued to look for us hours into the night while we sat around the fire at camp.

Overall damage to my buggy: broken windshield, missing head light, 2 flat tires, bent tie rod, broke 1st gear, threw a fan belt. I was able to fix everything except the windshield which i removed and just drove in 2nd gear. I even drove it in the dunes afterwards and towed it home with no problems. It was worth it, I had a great time. But I sure feel like crap right now, my back and neck hurt and i think my nose is broken. I think ill call in sick for work tomorrow. It was a hard lesson - I am going to wear a helmet from now on, and expect a roll cage soon, and seats that dont rip out of the floor. That was a major safety hazard that i should have fixed a long time ago.
