INDIANS CASTRO SCORES 4 TD's, INDIANS PUMMEL SHAFTER 43-14

The Indians' Paul Castro had a huge night, finishing the game with 162 yards, 2 catches for 70 yards, and four TD's

TEHACHAPI NEWS - When Tehachapi’s Paul Castro accounted for 146 yards of offense the first four times he touched the football, you had the feeling that it was the beginning of a big scoring night for the Indians against Shafter. When the gun sounded in the game and revealed a 43-14 final score, initial game indications proved to be correct.

Tehachapi (6-3; 3-1 SSL) wasted no time finding the endzone on their first series, with Paul Castro taking a handoff sweep from the Indian 41 yard line four a touchdown on the Indian’s first play from scrimmage. The two point run failed, but Tehachapi tool the early lead, 6-0.

The Indians would show alarming consistency after their first touchdown, scoring on their next five possessions to take a commanding 43-0 advantage through the fourth quarter.

Tehachapi’s second touchdown of the afternoon came with just over two minutes left in the first quarter, when Corey Finley caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Ehren Ochsenrider for a 12-0 lead.

Paul Castro would find a home in the receiving department on the next two touchdown drives, with Ochsenrider finding Castro for touchdown passes of 40 yards and 30 yards to help the Indians take a 24-0 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

The two scores, bringing up Ochsenrider’s touchdown total to three, would account for the freshman quarterback’s highest one-game output on the year. Ochsenrider finished with 91 yards passing on four completions.

The Indians would put the game away for good in the beginning of the third quarter when Castro scored his fourth touchdown of the game on a 56-yard run. Ochsenrider would add the point after attempt for a 31-0 lead. Castro finished the game with 162 yards on four carries, two completions for 70 yards, and four touchdowns.

Tehachapi’s Louie Olofson and Gabe Noboa would account for the Indian’s other two touchdown runs, with Olofson scoring on a 29-yard jaunt and Noboa a 35-yard run with 5:44 left in the game. The Olofson run was set up by a key block made by the Indian’s Matt Henry. Both PATs were no good.

On defense, Joey Montez lead all tacklers with 10, while also registering a sack. Byron Herman had eight tackles recorded and three pressures, Kelly Lorenz had five tackles, while Olofson, Mike Devlin, Greg Bloom, Greg Witcher, and Ben Sheahan each had four tackles. Sheahan also accounted for two sacks, while Olofson had two interceptions.  Victor Cerda also had two tackles and a sack in the win.

The Indians will close out their season in Bakersfield at Ridgeview High School against the Golden Valley Bulldogs this Wednesday. Kickoff for the game is set for 5pm.
