COMPTON SHUTS OUT BRAVES
TEHACHAPI NEWS - The Compton JV Tarbabes (2-0) scored on their first two possessions of the game, registered four turnovers, and forced three punts to limit the Tehachapi Braves (0-1) scoreless in a 12-0 win last Thursday afternoon. The Tarbabes scored a 45-yard touchdown on a pass-and-catch with 8:54 remaining in the first and sealed the win with the final score of the game on a 5-yard run at the 5:59 mark in the first quarter. The Braves defense would stiffen for the next three quarters, forcing four turnover-on-downs overall in the contest and an interception by Shawn Pimentel with 8:59 left in the third quarter. The Tehachapi offense never did get on track in the game, with the longest play from scrimmage a 21-yard jaunt by Byron Herman late in the fourth quarter. Other notable plays included a 16-yard catch by Pimentel and a 14-yard catch by Corey Finley from Ehren Ochsenrider. The leading rusher for Tehachapi was Pimentel, who had 33 yards on seven carries, followed by Herman with 25 yards on three carries and Joey Montez with two attempts for 18 yards. The Compton offense utilized the double-wing, a notably ball-controlled offense that ate up a majority of the game clock and kept the Braves defense on the field for most of the afternoon. Louie Olofson was the leading tackler in the game with eight takedowns, followed by Pimentel with seven, and Herman, Montez, Tyler Hack, and Derek Lange with six. Montez also registered a sack in the game. The loss against the Tarbabes marked the first time in 18-straight meetings that the Braves recorded a defeat, a winning streak dating all the way back to the 2003 season. Tehachapi will look to get back on track this week when they face off against Paraclete at Antelope Valley College this Saturday. Kickoff is set for 4pm.
