BRAVES BLANK THE TIGERS ON THE ROAD, 28-0
THE TEHACHAPI NEWS - The Braves scored three times in the first half and rushed for 300 yards to shutout the Tigers Friday, 28-0, in the South Sequoia League opener at Wasco. Back in the jayvee lineup (returning from a stint at the varsity level) sophomore Paul Castro was the go to guy for Coach Ryan Grimes. Castro scored all four touchdowns as he rushed for 168 yards in the game on 13 carries. “Having Castro back definitely helps our running game,” Coach Ryan Grimes said. “He was happy to come back, he wanted to contribute. He wanted to be on field.” The Braves got on the scoreboard early as Castro ran in his first TD of the night from the five on the Braves’ third play from scrimmage. Tehachapi started the drive at the 50. Castro picked up 15 yards on the first played followed by Will Clark who ran the ball to the Wasco five to set up Castro’s first TD. Later in the second quarter Castro scored twice on runs of 23 yards and one-yard in a four-minute span. The Braves logged 12 first downs in the game and limited Wasco to just four and 110 yards rushing. Castro hit again at the start of the fourth quarter for a 10-yard TD. Will Clark finished with 41 yards on seven carries and Joey Montez tallied 33 yards for the Braves. Braves quarterback Ehren Ochsenrider completed three passes for 19 yards. “It was a good way to start league,” grimes said. “It will help our confidence as we continue with league.” The Braves are scheduled to open for the Warriors hosting Taft this Friday on Coy Burnett Field at 5 P.M.
