FRESHMEN RALLY IN SECOND HALF TO DEFEAT COMPTON

TEHACHAPI NEWS - After spotting Compton (1-1) a 10-0 lead heading into the locker room last Friday night, the Indians (1-0) came out for the second half a team possessed in scoring 24 unanswered points for a 24-10 win in their home opener.

Compton held the Tehachapi wing-t attack in check for most of the first and second quarters, and found success on offense with a 13-yard run and a safety off a botched punt.

The second half was an entirely different story however, with most of the action staying on Compton’s side of the field and the Indian’s Adam Mullen running wild for 151 yards overall and two touchdowns.

The third quarter started with Tehachapi in good field position at the Compton 40 yard line. The Indians found the endzone for the first time on the afternoon when QB Justin Hansen found a wide-open Frankie Rodriguez in the middle of the secondary. Rodriguez then orchestrated a couple of nice jukes against Tarbabes defenders for the 30-yard TD pass and catch.  Hansen then connected with Garrett Coontz for the two-point conversion on right-corner endzone strike to make the score 10-8 Compton.

With 2:46 remaining in the third quarter, Mullen took his twelfth carry of the evening for a 7-yard score to shatter the Compton lead. The drive was set up with Mullen taking the kick return deep in Compton territory to the 25 yard line. After the two point run, it was 16-10 Tehachapi.

The final score of the night came with Mullen taking his longest run of the night 45 yards for a touchdown with 5:10 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Indians set up shop at the 50 yard line, and needed only two plays to put the nail in the coffin on the victory.  After the Mullen score, Josh Strauss ran in the two-point conversion to put Tehachapi up by the final count of 24-10.

Leading the Indians defense was Dominic Chaveria with six tackles and a sack, Josh Strauss, Garrett Coontz, and Vincent Ortiz with three tackles

The Indians are set to host Paraclete this Thursday at Coy Burnett Field.  Kickoff for the game is set for 5pm.
