TEHACHAPI NEWS - Tehachapi scored on an 85-yard kickoff return and a late second quarter touchdown against Arvin to go up 14-7 at halftime. However, the Bears (6-1; 2-0 SSL) reeled off 34 unanswered second-half points to take down the Braves (5-2; 1-1 SSL) and affirm themselves on top of the SSL standings through two games.

Adam Mullen had 182 all-purpose yards in the game, catching two passes for 40 yards and tallying 11 caries for 57 yards to lead the Tehachapi offense. Tehachapi’s first score came immediately after Arvin’s first touchdown of the game, with Adam Mullen orchestrating a stop-and-go at the Braves’ 30 yard line, and outracing the rest of the Bears defenders to the endzone for the 85-yard kickoff return.

Mullen later connected on a 30 yard pass completion from Kurtis Knudson with time winding down in the second quarter, setting up a first-and-goal at the Arvin one-yard line. The next play, Mullen barreled over the front line to put Tehachapi up 12-6. Knudson would take a bootleg down the right hash for a successful two point conversion, finishing the game 3-8 passing for 66 yards.

On defense, Jason Hail led Tehachapi with 13 tackles, Eric Harroun had 11 tackles, Chris Fimbres had eight tackles, and Joey Hack and Damien Rodriguez each had six tackles, with Rodriguez also recording an interception.

Tehachapi will look to bounce back this week against Shafter, who fell 46-0 to Taft last Friday afternoon. Tehachapi defeated Taft 7-6 in the SSL opener two weeks ago.
