Posted 10-15-06 TEHACHAPI NEWS - The Warriors played a strong defensive game for the second straight week, but fell by an identical score from league rival Taft in a 7-6 loss at home against the Arvin Bears. Tehachapi was a victim of a plethora of penalties on the evening, with the officials in the game throwing the flag 37 times for in-game fouls, 32 accepted between the Bears and Warriors. The most crucial penalty however came in the fourth quarter, when Tehachapi (3-4; 0-2 SSL) was flagged for an illegal man downfield on two-point conversion try after Stefan Bekker found the endzone to make the game 7-6 in favor of Arvin. The flag came following a successful two-point pass play from Ehren Ochsenrider to Shawn Pimentel, which would have made the game 8-7 with just over five minutes remaining in the game.

The Mountain Defense held Arvin to a staggering low 123 rushing yards, while holding Daniel Gonzalez, who came into the game against Tehachapi as the league leader, to only 40 yards on 14 attempts. Stefan Bekker led Tehachapi with nine carries for 53 yards, while Josh Strauss had 10 carries for 42 yards. Garrett Coontz had the Warriors’ lone reception on the night, a 36-yard catch from Ehren Ochsenrider. Jake Harris had a fumble recovery in the contest, while Bekker had an interception on Arvin’s third drive of the game. Tehachapi will have a big test this week at home against Shafter (6-1; 1-1 SSL), who lost a nail-biter to Taft 20-19 last Friday night. The game against Shafter will be at home this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
TRY AND RUN - The Warriors' defense is a formidable one...and will undoubtedly cause remaining SSL opponents Shafter, Wasco, and Bakersfield Christian fits in the coming weeks. Photo by Michael Duffy Hit and Fly!
