TEHACHAPI NEWS - The classic television program 'The Twilight Zone' begins with show host Rod Serling coining the phrase "You're traveling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind." After Tehachapi (4-4; 1-2 SSL) finished with a scoring output of a combined 12 points in their first two league games, the new single-game scoring record achieved against Shafter (6-2; 1-2 SSL) last Friday night in a 75-42 victory has the makeup of Tehachapi 'entering another dimension'. The 75 points scored is a new team record for most points by a Warrior offense, and shatters the previous scoring output mark set by the Warriors in 1957, when Tehachapi tallied a 74-6 victory over Mojave behind Joe Elizondo's four touchdowns and 262 yards rushing. Tehachapi and Shafter also eclipsed the most points scored in a single game in Tehachapi's 77-year football history, with the 117 points topping the 80 point combined score against Ridgeview (1996) and Mojave (1957). The Warriors amassed 508 yards rushing overall in the game, led by the running duo of Gabe Bressler and Josh Strauss, who together accounted for seven of Tehachapi's 11 touchdowns. Bressler finished the evening with 21 attempts for 197 yards on the ground while Strauss had 187 yards on 16 carries.
CAN'T CRACK THIS POLLEY - Mickey Polley proved why he is one of the best players in the SSL, torching the Tehachapi secondary for over 300 yards passing and five touchdowns. Despite the effort, Tehachapi was able to match and out score the Shafter threat in a 75-point explosion. After a 45-yard touchdown run by Gabe Bressler to start the first quarter, Tehachapi Quarterback Ehren Ochsenrider connected with wideout Stefan Bekker on the Warrior's second score of the game, a 60-yard pass play to put Tehachapi up 12-6. Shafter would go on to score to take a 13-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Warriors would go on a scoring bonanza the final three periods to re-take the lead and record the rout. The second quarter brought three touchdown runs, one by Bressler on a one-yard plunge, and two by Josh Strauss on 28 and 65 yards respectively. Strauss's 65-yard score brought the crowd to its feet in jubilation, with the sophomore sensation scoring from the Warrior 35-yard line, juking three players near the line of scrimmage and using his agility to get by the secondary in the fifth TD of the night for Tehachapi. After a Bressler one-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, Tehachapi exploded for 33 fourth quarter points, with Strauss and Bressler finding the endzone early in the period and Kelly Lorenz, Louis James, and Will Clark capping the final three Mountain Football scores. Along with Bressler and Strauss's outstanding rushing night, Will Clark finished with two carries for 44 yards, and Louis James led Tehachapi with a 37-yard per carry average on two long runs from scrimmage. Shafter entered the game as the valley's second-ranked team in Division IV. The Warriors will be in action at home this week against Wasco, who fell to Taft last Friday night 63-0. The game against the Tigers will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Coy Burnett Field.
BRESSLER BULLDOZER - Tehachapi's 508 yards was thanks in large part to Gabe Bressler, who led the ground game with 197 yards on 21 carries, scoring four times. Sophomore Josh Strauss contributed with 187 yards and three scores in the Warrior's big night. Hit and Fly!
