GETTIN' THE PUSH - Mountain Defense rose to the occasion on multiple plays against Righetti, holding the Coast-Warriors to only 105 passing yards and their rushing attack to 113 total yards.

TEHACHAPI NEWS - While the Warrior wing-t attack proved allusive on the night by helping the Warriors to two long runs for scores, in the end the Righetti defense held Tehachapi at bay en route to a 15-12 win in Santa Maria last Friday night.

Tehachapi started off their second series of the game with their longest play from scrimmage on the year, with Louis James taking a handoff 87yards to the house for a quick 6-0 lead for the Warriors.

The touchdown however was countered by Righetti on their second drive in the first quarter, with the Warriors starting their drive at their own 45-yard line and capping it with a four yard touchdown run. After a two-point conversion, Righetti was on top, 8-6.

In the second quarter, Tehachapi was threatening to retake the lead when they rumbled all the way down to the one-yard line of Righetti, but a false-start penalty and a bobbled pitch sent the pigskin back to the Righetti 19-yard line, where Tehachapi attempted a field goal and missed wide-left.

BEND...BUT DON'T BREAK - Tehachapi had a few chances to leave Santa Maria with a win, but the defense was a bright spot for Tehachapi in the close 15-12 loss in week 3.

In the second half, Mountain Football took the lead when a sweep run by Stefan Bekker caught the Warrior defense off guard, with the end result a 73-yard touchdown run for the speedy Tehachapi back.

On Righetti’s next drive, the Coastal-Warriors took the lead for good when a pass play for 62 yards sealed the win for the Southern Section power.

Tehachapi finished with 287 yards rushing, with Louis James finishing with six carries for 102 yards, Stefan Bekker eight touches for 93 yards, and Gabe Bressler 15 rushes for 55 yards. Ehren Ochsenrider led the Tehachapi passing attack with three completions for 35 yards, and Bekker led in receiving with two catches for 28 yards.

Tehachapi will have a home game this week against Stockdale (0-3), who lost a 15-0 decision to central valley top-ranked Clovis last Friday night. Kickoff for the game against the Mustangs will be at 7:30 p.m. this Friday.

SCOUTING REPORT:  Stockdale Mustangs (0-3) at Tehachapi Warriors (1-2)

While Mountain Football might think they are getting a reprieve of sorts in playing winless team in week four in the Stockdale Mustangs, when you analyze the quality of opponents that the Bakersfield ‘Stangs have faced this year the record can be deceiving.

Stockdale, who are led by a formidable two-headed horse in Edward Webber (#20) and Kenny Shanahan (#2), are very effective in running delayed handoffs in the Stockdale offense. On the year, Webber has been the leading rusher, taking 40 carries for 275 yards, while Shanahan has had 33 attempts for 106 yards.

Shanahan might be all the Mustangs need on offense this Friday night, after the stout speedster torched the Warriors last season for 182 yards on 18 carries in a 20-0 shutout in Bakersfield. But if Tehachapi zero’s in on Shanahan, Webber could make the defense pay with a long run from scrimmage if left unnoticed.

The Mustangs come into their contest against Tehachapi with a quarterback dilemma of sorts after a couple of forgettable starts for starting quarterback Brian Anderson (#3), who went 5-14 passing against Bakersfield in week two and threw two interceptions against Clovis last week in a shutout loss.

Despite the rough couple of games however, Anderson is still expected to get the start, but could give way to sophomore quarterback KC Hobson (#7) if his performance does not improve against the Warrior secondary.

Anderson or Hobson should have plenty of targets to throw to, led by Tim Armstrong (#31), who has eight catches for 81 yards on the year or Tyler Cotrell (#11), who has contributed with 70 yards in four hauls.

On the offensive line, Stockdale is anchored by Alan Prince (#73), Julian Villalvazo (#60), Luis Diaz (#52), Mike Wickensheimer (#64), and Soonjo Hong (#77), who was a major contributor to the Mustangs CIF championship appearance in 2004.

The Tehachapi offense’s ability to move the ball against Stockdale will tell the story tonight, after the Mustangs shutout Clovis to only nine points after the Cougars came into the contest averaging 63 points a game. The deceptive wing-t running attack will need to be running on all cylinders and keep the Mustang offense off the field.

On defense, look for Stockdale to receive big plays from linebackers Shanahan, Troy Webber (#10), and Daryl Carlin (#34). On the defensive line, Jeremy Ramirez (#45) and Zach Ochoa (#12) are solid bookends to scrum-bruisers Brian McConnell (#54) and Eric Martinez (#75).

Derek King (#5), Nick Pappas (#4), Armstrong, and Webber are also big threats in the secondary.

With the overall series record sitting at 5-3 in favor of Tehachapi, it should make for a great night of prep high school football.
