The Amateur Press Association of 1950 (APA-50)

APA-50 has a long and stapled past, beginning in 1974, when Chris Sherman had a dream. My introduction to fandom would come later from Simon Agree the following year. Simon was tight with Bruce Townley and thus A50 became my most favoured apa destination. By the time I met Cy Chauvin at Suncon, the first few waves had crested.

After Cy teased me with a spec copy (#19, August 1977), I lingered anxiously on the waitlist until pubbing my first A50 ish (#26, October 1978). I've had a few good runs since then.

In 1994 I contacted nearly every previous member with an invitation to contribute to a special 20th anniversary issue, which I published September 1994 as #113B.
Also published was my Index to the Apa, including zine titles from every mailing through #112. My index was kept up to date for many years, until...

Sadly, by 2004 my powers dwindled, I was unable to minac. In January 2005 I nailed my first deadline in far too long; dog willing I'll write more often and early. (lindsay crawford,04.20 PDT 07/18/05)

The Apa-50 Index will appear here real soon now!

I'm the first to comment. I made typos, my bad, always always always review before posting unless you're able to live with whatever your fingers deliver. Simple articulation of my thoughts into words is tough enough without digital distortion. Nuff said.

Anyone wondering if and when I plan to update the index of mailings and contents, yes, I expect to begin with the latest mailing before the end of the month (May 2006).
ADDITIONAL: I did plan, just not very well.

~Saturday 23 July 2005~
Oh happy day! The July Mailing is here! Go Jim Go!
Postmarked July 20: one small step for a paper artifact, one giant leap for the publication.
Wish I knew how it is I can be so unable to write and publish for the apa when each missed deadline brings such acute pain. Heck and Darnation!
Speaking of pain, I am very sad to see Mathews and Nelson dropped. I've been delighted with Kevin's contributions since his first, and though E. Schuyler's most recent was the first I'd read of her, I was very much looking forward to hearing more.

~Mailing #175 for July 2005~
includes Zines by:
Alice Eaton
Allan Beatty
Jim Bodie
Susan Bybee
Jennifer Dean
Jimmy Dean
Nick du Lac
Kennedy Gammage
Bob Marshall

Missing members:
D. S. Black
Julianne Chatelain
Lindsay Crawford
Terry Floyd
Vernon Gravely

The mailing looks fine and we are fortunate to have Jim supporting the life of the apa. Despite his lament over the decline in activity, I think we're still vital enough to spring back, thanks to Jim's consistant care. I prefer to see what works and look for ways to make it work better. One task for this page is to write about what I value from my years of service to the apa and why I want to continue being involved. My motto: let's get something on paper.

I doubt there is anything worth saying about my next zine, other than an estimate of my fiscal ability. I see no reason why I can't get something in the September mailing. I should be much further along in the moving in process and able to budget for at least four pages. Only time will tell. It hurts to see this conflict in myself between desire and ability and feel thwarted in making progress. I usually feel some small satisfaction in my efforts at end of day. Time to just be glad I'm still alive to write another day.
