Companions of the Night
by Vivian Vande Velde

Vivian Vande Velde is a wonderful author, and she has written some of my other favorite books, but I liked this one the most.
When sixteen-year-old Kerry’s little brother, Ian, comes into her room at nearly eleven o’clock at night to ask her to retrieve his stuffed bear, Footy, from the Quick Clean Laundry, she feels obliged to. After all, ever since her mom left, Kerry can’t take it when Ian cries.
So, Kerry, sporting only a driver’s permit and no experience driving at night, drives to the Quick Clean. There, she walks in on what looks like a gang war or a drug deal gone bad, for, inside, Ethan, presumably a student at the local college, is tied up and gagged.
Kerry soon learns that the owner of the Quick Clean, as well as several of his friends, believe that Ethan is a vampire, and they are waiting for dawn to expose him. Kerry, thinking that the laundromat’s owner and his friends are crazy, helps Ethan to escape. And, suddenly, she is drawn into Ethan’s world, a world of mystery and things that go bump in the night.

Redwall
by Brian Jacques

This book is a great fantasy for all ages. Matthias, a mouse, lives in Redwall Abbey, and he must go on a dangerous quest to save it. On his quest, he must befriend a hostile shrew clan, outwit the savage King Bull Sparra, and battle the evil adder Asmodeus.
Redwall is the first of many Redwall books, each more enchanting than the last.
