When Daria and Jodie get invited to tour Grove Hills, a school for gifted students, Helen and Jake drive them up for the weekend. Quinn stays behind at Sandi’s house, but tensions between them soon mount, and Quinn gets kicked out. So, she goes to Tiffany’s house, where she also gets asked to leave after blowing up at Tiffany about her obsessive concerns about her weight. Next comes Stacey, but Quinn is scared out when Stacey wants to dress the same as her and dye their hair the same colour. Finally, Quinn winds up at the Lane residence, where she bores Trent and Jane to tears by talking about nothing.
Meanwhile, at Grove Hills, Daria and Jodie are approached by Lara, Cassidy, and Graham, three of the students there. They actually seem to be hitting it off, but it slowly becomes apparent that these kids are even more snobbish than those at Lawndale. Jake and Helen meet up with Jodie’s parents, Andrew and Michele Landon. Andrew sees through to Jake’s true flakiness, and seems to be enjoying torturing him. Helen and Michele are even worse – Helen ticks Michele off from the start by commenting on Michele’s unplanned baby, and Michele’s habit of twisting Helen’s words to their worst possible meaning doesn’t help either.
Finally, Daria and Jodie get sick of the Grove Hill snobs, and Jodie tells them off. Daria and she talk for awhile about their attitudes and even admit that they sometimes would like to be more like one another. They decide that they don’t want to Grove Hills, as Daria said, “Why go to a special school to learn useless information when I can do it at Lawndale for free?”
When Daria gets home, she meets Quinn explaining to a very annoyed Jane why tennis bracelets should be renamed “wrist ornaments”. Jodie seems to have been influenced by Daria somewhat, in that, the next day, when Brittany shows her a really bad drawing of flowers, hearts, etc., she expresses her true feelings by telling Brittany to “rent a brain”.
