Mr. O'Neill is Lawndale High's English teacher (and self-esteem class teacher in "Esteemsters"), and he's one of those touchy-feely "everyone is special" kind of guys. He's also somewhat of a wimp, and can be pretty idiotic at times. He, however, does like Daria's writing, although in "Arts 'N' Crass" he deemed her poem to be "yucky". He also has a definite problem with remembering names.

Rather surprisingly, he is totally in love with Ms. Barch, the ferocious science teacher, and is often seen in front of a mirror, practicing asking her out.

His typical outfit includes grey slacks, brown shoes, and a long-sleeved peach-colored dress shirt. Daria was pretty accurate when she drew a picture of him with soft-serve ice cream as hair, as it tends to have a wispy, swirly type look.
