Partners' Complaint

Mrs. Bennett appears in her second episode to assign new, slightly less hair-brained project: her students are to embark on a financial, er, embarkment of some sort. But, she insists that they work with a partner as "we rarely make financial decisions without having to first consider another" (or something along those lines).

Tensions are running high between Daria and Jane, thanks to the acquisition of the latter's new boyfriend, so when Jodie asks her to be her partner, Daria agrees just to spite Jane. It soon becomes apparent why Jodie asked her, though. It seems that Brittany and Kevin had a fight over, get this, who was smarter, and she had set her sights on Ms. Landon. Unfortunately, Jane was still standing there, so Brittany asked her because she was convenient. Kevin and Mack wind up working together because their girlfriends were already paired off, and both they and Jane and Brittany decide to purchase an automobile. After debating for quite a while, Jodie and Daria choose to take out a loan to start a small business. At the first bank they tried, the loan officer refused to give them the loan unless Jake would co-sign. That is, until he found out who Jodie's father was, upon which he started kissing her ass. She accused him of being racist and hypocritical, then stormed out. But, at the next bank, she was sure to mention Andrew's name in the first ten seconds.

Daria gets really pissed at her and, when they are back at the Morgendorffers', they have an argument about whether the first guy or Jodie was being more hypocritical, and the latter leaves in a huff again. Later that night, Helen and Daria have a talk about ethics and stuff, and by the day the project is to be presented, OH is feeling like quite the clod. She decides not to tell the class how they really got the loan, and to apologize to Jane. By the end of the episode, Jane and Daria are at Pizza King and everything is back to normal.

Kevin and Brittany are at their best here. Unfortunately, this won't be the last we see of them this season. In fact, I believe that this was one of the smallest parts either one of them had the entire time. I loved how the characters explored some deeper issues than they have in a while. It seems like only season 1 and the season premiers do. More kudos to Mr. Glenn Eichler.
