The Angry Beavers

Loud music blares, bright colours flash, and two weasely-looking furballs dance across the screen. The Angry Beavers has begun.

The show is about two beaver brothers trying to make it on their own. Norbert is the calm, collected one with the brains, a rather large ego, and a desire to be accepted by Barry (“Mr. Cool”). Daggett is the nervous, panicky imbecile who doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him. Total opposites. That’s what makes the show so funny. Some of the predicaments they get into are absolutely hilarious. The writers are great, and the animators have a style all their own. Ooh, the baby beavers are soooo cute!

Some episodes are really gross (i.e. “Loogie Hawk” and the episode where Norby gets an ear infection), and some are down right absurd (like “El Grapadora”; if I wanted to watch it in Spanish, I’d move to Mexico), but these are few and far between. Most are great.

Now, I must commend the actors and the people who hired them. Nick Bakay’s voice is perfect for the part. It’s as smooth and laid back as the character. And Richard Horvitz. Boy, Howdy, does his voice match Dag’s personality! We’re talking like Miriam Pataki or Negaduck, where you know exactly what the character is like just by listening to the voice. His high-pitched whine, sound effects, and occasional stutter make all of this possible.

Even the credits are enjoyable. As they roll, there are messages in the names, and if you can read fast enough, maybe you can catch what one or two of the short ones say.

The Angry Beavers was created by Mitchell Schauer and is a Gunther-Wahl production. It airs on Nickelodeon at 10:30 AM on Saturday and Sunday. It just finished its third season.

Thanks to Wes's Angry Beavers Home Page for the wonderful graphics.
