Schmendrik

Full Name: Schmendrik
Age: young-ish. For a wizard, I mean.
Occupation: none-to-successful wizard
Voice: Alan Arkin

I have only seen the movie once, and I was struggling to stay awake at the time, but one of the more outstanding features of The Last Unicorn was definitely Schmendrik.

It’s been noted that I’m a sucker for guys who resemble bean poles. It has most likely been inferred that I’m a sucker for characters who try, but are just a little less competent than they would like. I should think that it has been divined that I’m a sucker for dry humor. And I certainly hope that I’ve lead you to believe that I’m a sucker for Discworld books starring, or even containing a brief cameo by, Rincewind. So, here we have a character that is very much, indeed, like Rincy. The one big difference is that, when our non-animated (yet!) friend finally masters the use of his powers, it is only temporarily, and through no doing of his own. Schmendrik, on the other hand, eventually learns to control his powers and becomes a full-fledged wizard. He’s also a skosh more open with his friends, but most people are.

But, again, I’m comparing characters. [slaps herself on the wrist] Schmendrik is…a long name to spell. Wait. What I meant to say was that he is an awesome character.

And I really can’t say much more on the subject until I’ve either read the book or seen the movie again. It’s been almost a year and I remember very little about it.
