* Charroux, Robert. MYSTERIES OF THE ANDES. Discovery by scientists of two Venezuelan (volcanic?) 'craters', both of which are connected by tunnels near the bottom. Also describes native legends of the region concerning a race of strange beings which live beneath the area in great underground chambers, and UFOs that have been seen entering and leaving the craters. * 'FAIL TO EXPLORE HAUNTED MINE' (Article in THE NEW YORK HERALD, Jan. 4, 1903, p. 8, reprinted with comments by Gary Mangiacobra and Lucius Farish in 'THE HOLLOW HASSLE', May 1981. Account of an ancient mine known as the 'Refugio' mine near Alpine, [SW] Texas and the Mexican border, in which explorers had allegedly heard strange rushing noises, observed unusual lights and discovered a strange 'drift' from which the phenomena seemed to emerge at regular intervals. In some cases an unknown and invisible force would emerge from this side tunnel and throw explorers repeatedly against the far walls, leaving them bruised and bloody).

-- Nov. 1950 (p. 88 contains an aerial photograph of the Chinese 'Shensi' Pyramids).
-- July 1954 (pp. 7-8 refer to ancient artificial tunnels discovered by the Lion Coal Corp. below the Wattis, Utah area).
-- Jan. 1956 (pp. 6-7 refers to the pyramids of Shensi of the Shensi province of China, which are allegedly even more massive than the pyramids of Egypt. Legend states that ancient records from a prehistoric civilization exist in secret tunnels and chambers below the pyramids).

* FOLKLORE, A QUARTERLY REVIEW, Vol. 10, 1909 (pp. 331-332, 398 describe an ancient tunnel in the Fjeld Kalken Mts. of Norway. Also, Vol. 28, pp. 92-93 tells of an underground river- cave running through a mountain in Ireland and of explorers who claimed to have seen buildings with lighted windows and horrifying sights deep inside the cave. * Goldstein, Lorrie. TUNNEL MONSTER OF CABBAGETOWN (Article in the TORONTO SUNDAY SUN, Mar. 15, 1979. Describes the experience of a resident of 'Parliament' Street in the lower east side of Toronto, who in search for a missing kitten discovered a hidden passage leading under a building from a fenced-in blind alley. Inside the passage he allegedly saw a dead kitten and a strange short sapian-like humanoid creature with slate-grey fur. After the creature whispered in a raspy voice 'Go Away, Go Away' it scurried off down a 45 degree angle tunnel which descended as far as he could see).

* Goodwin, Grenville. MYTHS AND TALES OF THE WHITE MOUNTAIN APACHE. (p. 20 gives an account of an Indian near the White Mountain - San Carlos Indian reservations of Arizona who travels through a tunnel in a specified ridge and arrives in the land of the 'Ga'n' people.

* Grew, Edwin S., THE ROMANCE OF GEOLOGY (argues that the earth's interior is porous).

* Griffin, Howard F., Letter in the SHAVER MYSTERY MAGAZINE, Vol. 1, No. 2, p. 35. (Vast caverns within the interior of Pikes Peak in Colorado, from which the hollow sounds of occasional subterranean 'rock slides' have been heard).

* Grumley, Michael. THERE ARE GIANTS IN THE EARTH. Panther Books, Ltd., St. Albans, Herts, England, 1976. (pp. 42-47 refer to an ancient tunnel on the Ecuador-Columbia border, allegedly connected to the tunnel system reported in Erich von Danniken's book 'THE GOLD OF THE GODS', inhabited by giant Man-Apes and which is believed to contain the answers to the mysteries of the beginning of civilization on Earth).

* Hand, Wayland D., CALIFORNIA MINORS FOLKLORE QUARTERLY (April 1942, pp. 128-132 refers to alleged strange encounters with unknown beings in mines).

* Hansen, L. Taylor. THE ANCIENT ATLANTIC (reference to the African 'Tauregs' and their underground cities).

* Hewett, Edgar L., HANDBOOKS OF ARCHEOLOGICAL HISTORY (see: pp. 23-24. Legendary tunnels near the Great Sand Dunes, CO., and Oja Caliente, New Mexico, from which native American tribes allege their ancestors ascended to the surface of the earth following underground migrations. The Great Sand Dunes portal was allegedly buried beneath a brackish 'lake' somewhere in the dunes around which could often be seen dead cattle and other animals which had died from drinking the poisonous water).

The author allegedly encounters a powerful sorcerer, a member of a secret international occult brotherhood and overlord of an underground city built around a 'bottomless shaft' and hidden in a remote Tibetan valley, where the population is made up largely of missing persons who have come under his occult control. Allegedly a true story).

-- TIMELESS EARTH (Garnstone Press., London. 1933 - Soviet discovery of strange ancient tunnels beneath the Azerbaijan region, with walls that glowed a faint phosphorescent green, and passages which led to other openings throughout the Caucasus Mts.).

* Lael, Ralph. THE BROWN MOUNTAIN LIGHTS (Morganton; The Author. 1965 - The authors alleged encounter with strange paraphysical entities in an alien installation beneath North Carolina's Brown Mountain).

* Parsons, J. C. Letter in the 'HOLLOW HASSLE' Newsletter (no longer published), Vol. 1, No. 1 issue, telling of the writer's discovery of a perfectly round, smooth vertical shaft deep inside a cave in Tennessee which descends over 100 ft. Discussions of possible exploration of the shaft in the future.

* Pennick, Nigel. THE SUBTERRANEAN KINGDOM (No more information available).

* Peterson, Jack. Letter in SHAVERTRON, issue No. 14, describing the writer's own experience near June Lake, CA, where he allegedly observed a small humanoid being come out of a strange cone-shaped machine which emerged from the depths of the earth, to which it later returned.

* Quackenbush, Ezra. Author of a 'diary' allegedly existing in the British museum. The author, the lone survivor of a shipwreck near the coast of INDIA, allegedly swims to a deserted island where a strange race of tall, blond (subterranean?) people care for him until he is rescued by a passing ship.

* Ranck, G. W., HISTORY OF LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY. Details the discovery and subsequent loss of a tunnel entrance in or near the city of Lexington, which upon exploration allegedly was found to lead into very ancient subterranean chambers containing strange alters, idols, and more than 2,000 human mummies from a vanished civilization.

* Randolph, Vance. OZARK GHOST STORIES (Reference to a strange international cult which allegedly makes regular pilgrimages to a 'bottomless shaft' hidden deep within a remote canyon in or near the Ozarks, and from which strange lights and noises emerge according to witnesses).

* Ravenscroft, Trevor. THE SPEAR OF DESTINY (Describes Adolf Hitler's perverse fascination with the spear which allegedly pierced the side of Christ. Also ch. 19-20 refers to 'Shamballah' and 'Agartha' in an occultic sense, or rather the obsession that Hitler had to search for those realms along with the Third Reich's own false 'interpretations' of such legends for their own benefit).

* Raynes, Brent. Article in SHAVERTRON, Summer, 1980. A military worker accidentally discovers a highly classified 'diary' in a locked file at an Army base in Texas. The diary was apparently that of Capt. James Cook, and described an encounter he and his crew had with a friendly human-like race of 7 ft. tall humans who assisted them in making some repairs to their ship. The incident allegedly occurred during Cook's 1772-1775 expedition to the South Pole.

* Rittlinger, Herbert. THE MEASURELESS OCEAN (Reference to a tunnel below the island of Temuen).

* ROSICRUCIAN DIGEST (Nov. 1948 issue contains submitted information by Harold Preece concerning subterranea-related events).

* SERIA DOCUMENTAL DEL PERU. Peruvian newspaper (date uncertain). Describes an expedition which explorers from Lima University, accompanied by experienced speleologists, undertook in 1923. After entering a tunnel in or near Cuzco, Peru, the explorers lost communication with the point of entry. After 12 days only one member of the expedition, almost starved, returned to the surface. But his report of a confusing labyrinth was so incredible his colleagues declared him mad. Police prohibited entry into the mysterious passage and dynamited the entrance to prevent further loss of life.

* Serling, Rod. ENCOUNTER WITH THE UNKNOWN (Television documentary narrated by Serling. Circa 1975, Media Ventures Inc. Produced by Joe Glass, Jack Anderson & Hillman Taylor. Based on actual episodes described by Dr. Johnathan Rankin. - One episode described a boy in southern Missouri who went out to look for his runaway dog after a thunderstorm several years ago. He finds a pit that had recently opened through the wet ground, and tells his father. The father, believing the dog may have fallen down the pit, asks some friends to lower him down on a rope, which is secured to a nearby tree. A few minutes later a horrifying scream is heard and the men pull him out of the pit. Upon arriving at the surface they find his eyes glazed over, his skin white as a sheet, and his _expression as one who suffered incredible trauma or a horrifying experience. Whatever he saw down there had frightened him so much that he could not speak, and remained mute for the rest of his life, much of which was spent in a hospital for the insane. No one ever learned what he saw down in the pit.).

* Sheppard, J. M. Article in AMERICAN WEEKLY, Feb. 1944 issue (The writer finds a strange shaft within a mountain top near the Ecuador-Columbia border, from which emerged a mysterious man who beckoned him away).

* Snyder, Al. NEWTON'S LAWS ARE FULL OF FLAWS (According to the author, Newton made an error in his gravitational equation. Snyder's calculations indicate that the earth is five times less massive or dense than is suggested by figures derived from orthodox scientific computations. He stated that the earth could only be extremely porous throughout. He also calculates that the Sun is only 575 times as dense as the earth and not 300,000 as orthodox calculations state. "This would explain why the sun is 98.8% of the mass of the solar system, but only 2% of it's angular momentum."

* Spence, Lewis. Article in OCCULT REVIEW, Aug. 1927 issue referring to underground labyrinths.

* Stacy-Judd, Robert. Various writings detailing the author's explorations of Yucatan's Loltun caverns.

* Steiger, Brad. ATLANTIS RISING (ch. 6 - 'underground masters and monsters').

* Swanson, Virginia Louis. Letter appearing in 'INNER EARTH ENTRANCES' (Fry Publications) referring to the Devil's Hole, in Death Valley National Monument, NE of Death Valley Junction, CA. Two boys entered the cave several years ago and were never seen again. Navy scuba diver's were lowered on cables and reported seeing a large river which roared up from below, flowing across a wide expanse. They could not estimate it's depth because of a myriad of colonnades of black rock which it flowed through before plunging down an abyss. The cave is somewhere NEAR 'Devil's Hole' (which is still open to the public although 'fenced in'), and was allegedly sealed shortly after the disappearance.

* Taylor, Douglas. TALES AND LEGENDS OF THE DOMINICA CARIBS. Articles in JOURNAL OF AMERICAN FOLKLORE, Vol. 65 (Reference to a race of beings who according to legend went underground).

* Tompkins, Peter. SECRETS OF THE GREAT PYRAMIDS (see: pp. 268-269, hardback edition).

* Ward, Jimmy. Letter in GRAY BARKER'S NEWSLETTER, Aug. 1982, No. 16 issue (An announcement made by the Canadian Research Council in 1942 of plans for constructing a vast underground complex to be built by AVRO Corp., which was to cover an area of about 75 square miles in the region between British Columbia and Alberta, bordering on the State of Washington on the south, and the Peace River district on the north. No further word of the project has been released).

* Warren, Martha. MANDAN-HIDATSA MYTHS AND CEREMONIES (p. 10 refers to the Mandan Indian's 'emergence' myth).

* Watkins, Leslie. ALTERNATIVE 003. First published in London, reprinted by Avon Books, N.Y., 1978. 239 pp. (pp. 99-102 tells of the Government's knowledge of entire ancient cities, linked by an elaborate complex of tunnels, far below the surface of the earth, and lighted by a strange greenish luminescence, the remains of which have been found under many parts of the world).

* WEIRD STORIES, by the editors of 'The Tatler' (Published in Great Britain. see: pp. 45-58).

* Whitell, Evelyn. HEALING UNDER TROPICAL SKIES. 1938. Legends of ancient tunnels which are supposed to connect all of the Hawaiian islands, known only to the ancient kings and kahuuas.

* WHO KNOWS WHAT LURKS IN BLACK HOLE? Article in the Everett, WA., newspaper THE EVERETT HERALD, Mar. 17, 1980. A strange hole which 'eats' and 'erupts' anything that is thrown into it. Speleologists who explored the hole which suddenly appeared in the yard of Jim Johnson of Tacoma, saw 'little cone- shaped things' which they 'could not explain'.
