Kii legends - Creation Myth
Once, the world we call Tey was nothingness, mere potential in a sea of non-existance. But though time did not exist, there eventually came into being a presence. It felt the need for more, and from nothing created an entire world. First, it created the ground, the skies and the oceans. Then it created life, animals, birds, fish, and finally the first Kii. It granted the Kii intelligence, and in return asked only for a name. The Kii called the presence Harrafor, and with the name came a shape, a form, a being. Harrafor taught the Kii how to farm, hunt, fish and live. The Kii multiplied, but the more Kii that there were, the more lonely Harrafor became. He decided to create again, create a tribe of beings like himself. He created a mate, as he gave life, she took it to maintain Tey's delicate balance. He called to the Kii to name the new deity, and they called her Pelijea.
Time passed, and as the Kii grew, so did the deities. Pelijea bore Harrafor four children. To the eldest son, Tevey, Harrafor gave the land. To Tevey's sister, Darnise, Harrafor gave the sea. The next son, Jian, was given dominion over fire and the sun. Jian had a twin sister, Nejian, and she was given the moon and the winds to rule.
The family of deities was well, but the Kii were not. A faction of tribes, calling themselves the Ne-Kii, grew apart from the Kii kingdom, and the two waged war, starting the battle on the day of the birth of the next divine child. The sudden war was felt by the child at the moment of birth, and Heyeser was split into two minds, a brother and sister in one body. Heyeser warred within themself as the Kii did. Harrafor and Pelijea were dismayed at the wars, and produced another son, And. They brought And up as the divine warrior, and entrusted him with the task of ending the war. And went down to Tey, and brought both sides together in one final clash. The losses were great for both factions, and on seeing the cost that their rivalry had inflicted on them, both sides made peace. At this, Heyeser made peace with themself. The male Heyeser agreed to only emerge when Jian's sun was in the sky, while the female Heyeser would remain in control when Nejian's moon floated in the night.
A time of great peace and prosperity came about, and the deities had three more children. The first was a son, who saw the laughter of the happy Kii, and could think of nothing more. He took the inpronouncable name of Kqgf'lff, a divine joke, so that he could laugh at the attempts of his worshippers to pronounce his name. Then came two sisters. Miaa saw the love that the Kii and Ne-kii had developed for each other, and she took this love as her own. But the youngest of the children was a troubled one. She saw the Kii as nothing more than tools to gain power with. She slid through the tribes and kingdoms, turning Kii to her cause - to destroy her family and take Tey for herself. To her family, she was known as Adro, but to disguise her intentions, she took the name of Manmue while walking on Tey.
As time passed and her powers grew, Adro became ever more insane with power-lust. A few unfortunate Kii discovered her plans and tried to warn Harrafor, but Adro caught them, and fashioned a suit of armour from their skins. It was at this time that Adro decided to begin her plans for conquest. The fanatics that followed her, who we know and curse as the Ban, whispered words of rebellion and hatred amongst the Kii, and a second great war erupted, far more bloody and terrible than the first. Again, And stepped down to Tey to end the war, but Adro was waiting for him. Tricking him into entering a cave of marble, she sealed the War God inside a mountain, after stealing his skin to add to her own.
The effect of the war was terrible on the deities. Harrafor was sick with grief when he discovered his youngest daughter, whom he had loved most of all his children, had brought about this disaster. He pleaded with her to stop the madness, but Adro simply laughed in his face and defeated him, and began to skin her own father.
But then the mountains burst open, and And walked Tey once more. This was Adro's sole mistake - as her war grew, so did the War God's power, until not even Adro's specially created trap could hold him. Even without a skin, And challenged his sister. The two fought, scarring the land and destroying almost all within sight, but when the battle ended, it was Adro who lay defeated. And retrieved his skin from his sister, and called all loyal Kii to his side to drive the Ban from the land.
But even now, Harrafor could not bring himself to execute his traitorous favourite. Instead, he called on his wife, the Death Goddess Pelijea, to create a rip in the surface of Tey itself, so that Adro could be sealed in the centre of the world, forever away from harm. Once this was done, and the Ban forever banished from the Kii, Harrafor declared that never again would Adro's name, or any other name she had used, be spoken aloud. From this day forward, she would be referred to only as She Who Wears Skins. And the wars ended, and the Kii returned to a time of peace.
