Warren County Tennessee Land

Thank you, Georgene, for the Xeroxes of Tennessee Land Grant #3300. Here's how I read it:(Charles Brashears comments)

  • The State of Tennessee — No. 3300
  • To all whom these presents shall come—GREETING:

  • Know Ye, That by virture of part of Certificate No. 611, dated March 10th 1810, issued by the legislature of West Tennessee to Abraham Wright and Jason Thompson and entered on the 11th of December 1810, by No. 5584 there is granted by the said state of Tennessee unto Jesse Brashear, assignee of the said Abraham Wright and Jason Thompson
a certain tract or parcel of land, containing twenty three acres, lying in Warren County, in the first District in a hollow known by name of bare hollow, on the waters of the main East fork of the three forks of Stones River—Beginning at a poplar marked with the letters W.M., being the South East corner of survey or entry in the name of Charles Rudy for eight acres, thence East sixty and one half poles to a ?xtxxxat? standing on the West side of a steep hill, thence North sixty one poles to a Small White oak, thence West sixty and a half poles to a stake in the East boundary line of said Charles Rudy's eight acre survey, then with his line South Sixty one poles to the Beginning, and including the house and improvements whereon William Middleton Junr lives. Surveyed 23rd March 1811 by Jesse Brashear, D.C.
with the hereditaments and appurtenances—to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land, with its appurenances, to the said Jesse Brashear
  • and his heirs forever—In witness whereof Willie Blount Governor of the state of Tennessee, hath herunto set his hand and caused the great seal of the state to be affixed, at Knoxville, on the Seventh day of August in the year of our Lord on thousand eight hundred and eleven and of the Independence of the United States the thirty sixth. By the Governor, /s/ R. Houston, Secretary. Willie Blount
This is apparently the tract of land where Betsy (Elizabeth Wright)lived in 1820, where she was taxed, and from where their children spread out into the neighboring hollows and valleys.
There is no William, Nathan, nor Middleton Brashear Jr mentioned, along with Jesse; only a neighbor, Charles Rudy, and a tenant, William Middleton Jr.
What is even more interesting to me are the initials after Jesse's name and that he surveyed his own land (today, that would be considered a conflict of interests): What in the world does "D.C." stand for? "District Clerk"? That is a "C", isn't it? I've seen some old grants with "D.S." after a man's name, to stand for "District Surveyor." But this one stumps me.
