The Talking Thing

Professor Walsh finished her lecture and let the class go. Buffy jumped out of her seat and hurried towards Riley. "Riley!" she called out as she made her way to his desk.

"Oh," Riley smiled and started to pack up his papers, "hey Buffy. Why wasn't Willow in class today?"

"She's been crying since last night. She needed to take a day off to clear her head."

"Crying?" Riley picked up his bag and ushered Buffy out the door. "Anything I can do to help?"

"No, it's partly your fault," Buffy scowled.

"In what way?"

"Xander and her had a big fight last night. She said he yelled at her and told her she should get over Oz, which I totally agree with, and she's been crying ever since."

"So how is that my fault?" Riley asked, getting slightly annoyed.

"They were fighting because Xander kissed you and Willow told him to stay away from you. Everything would have been fine if he hadn't kissed you. I'm really sorry that he did it."

"I'm not," Riley smiled as he remembered the feeling of Xander's lips against his.

"But," Buffy squealed with shock, "me! You're with

me!" "I'm not 'with you', as you like to put it," Riley sighed and continued, "I admit that I did like you, but now I like Xander."

"You're picking Xander over me?" Buffy harshly emphasized Xander's name. "Why?"

"Just because. I don't think I need to explain my actions to you. If you were a better friend maybe you would realize how great he is." Leaving a stunned Buffy behind, Riley walked away smiling.

Xander was sitting on his bed and singing, badly. Shania Twain was blasting through his tiny apartment. "Honey I'm home and I had a bad day," he sand as he jumped off his bed and started dancing. He clapped his hands and shook his ass while turning in a sloppy circle.

"And I thought I couldn't dance," Riley smiled as Xander turned around. Both men had huge grins plastered on their faces, but only Riley was laughing.

"Riley," Xander walked over and turned down the music. "Sorry you had to witness that. My body just takes over when I hear that song."

"It's ok," Riley choked out through the laughter, "because you looked like you were having fun, and I could never dance that good."

"I'm a great dancer," Xander laughed back, "I just have no coordination."

"Sorry I showed up unexpectedly." Riley quieted down and looked at his nails, suddenly shy. "I got the address from the bartender and just wanted to see you. Your mom let me in."

"That's ok, I'm kinda glad you showed up."

"I thought we could talk about some stuff."

"The talking thing," Xander sat down on his bed and patted the seat next to him, "that almost always turns into the I never want to see you again thing."

"No," Riley sat down next to him, "I wanted to see how you were after your big fight with Willow. She didn't show up to class today."

"Figures. She needed more attention. It wasn't a big fight, really just me telling her off."

"Good."

The two of them sat in silence before Xander spoke up, "I did it for you. I wanted to prepare Willow and Buffy in case I acted on my desires."

"What are your de-" Riley was cut off by Xander's lips crushing his. The kiss was rougher than the one before. Riley slid his tongue over Xander's lips and they were opened to him. The two took turns caressing each other's tongues and finally had to break for air. "Wow," was all Riley could say.

"Yeah, wow."

"I told Buffy that I didn't like her. She got grumpy, but I think she can deal with this," Riley made a gesture between Xander and himself.

"What exactly is this?" Xander asked and looked seriously at Riley.

"I don't know, but it feels right."

"Yeah."
