The story of Scapey and Balkee stretches back many, many years back to the industrial revolution. The two met while working at a steel mill in Amsterdam when Scapey was 6 and Balkee was 8. Scapey's real name if Pobil van Steuven, while Balkee was born a Pinchas Bronschot. The two became best of friends until one day when a terrible tragedy happened to Balkee. Balkee was operating at his station when he dropped his tam near the running gears of the machinery. He reached down to get his hat and his arm was pulled into the machinery and ripped off in a blaze of glory. Balkee did not get a prosthetic limb until 1950 when he took some 2x4's he found in a gutter and widdled them into an arm. When Balkee had only one arm he was limited to playing only the triangle, which was very demeaning for such a talented Musician.
Earlier Scapey was recruited by a hot new band from the 40's called Skaliper, Scapey insisted that if he was going to join Balkee must also be a part of the band. A court battle ensued, and after 10 years of deliberation it was decided that Balkee could be in the band and play the Saxophone, because he now had a prosthetic arm. After 25 years with Skaliper, Scapey and Balkee's interests in music styles differed from that of Skaliper frontman O'Shea d' Andalucia, and the two decided to leave Skaliper and look for musical employment elsewhere. A year after Scapey and Balkee left Skaliper Beef Master and Grade A were looking for a new sound for Beef. They met Scapey and Balkee at a convention of dairy farmers and Scapey and Balkee proceded to try out for Beef. Their tryout went flawlessly and they were instantly the next member of Beef. The years that Scapey and Balkee were in Beef was a time of social, political, religious, and technological change. The two smoked drugs with Grade A and Beef Master in the 80's and died soon after.
