Awright, ye want te look at ee demo o' a defence
battle. Here 'tis.
What you submit
Name: Bill
Vermin: Foxes
Number of Vermin: 3
Story:
I"ll start off, an' run up onto the guard platform, an'
pull up the rope ladder. If they catch up to me, I'll thwack 'em
with my sling, an' run up. If they all catch up to me, I'll try to
manuver so they get in each others way, and knock 'em of by thwacking 'em
with my loaded swing. Otherwise, I'll go on top and sling stones
at the biggest one, until one of them makes it onto the platform.
Then I'll lose a slingstone at his forehead. If it kills him, I'll
push his body onto the next one. If not, I'll thwack him hard, until
he falls off. If they all get onto the platform, at the same time,
I'll thwack madly, and kick 'em too. If I'm too hard pressed, I'll
jump and run to the trees, where I can surprise 'em, and pick 'em off one
by one. If I'm wounded badly, I'll run for the port.

What you write Back to us for the Library:
Bill stood alone, at the base of the Guard
Platform. It was dark and cold and he was alone on sentry, but Bill
didn't mind. He would just finish his warm scone, and then he could
head back to the tavern, for some ale. Out of the corner of his eye,
Bill noticed three dark shapes slinking around the forest. He shrugged
it off. Probably another one o' those silly new recruits, off on
an arrand, he thought. But then he noticed the flash of one of their
scimitars, as the foxes dropped their cloaks, and ran full out for him.
Bill ran swiftly, trying to reach the Guard Platform before they did.
There, he could slay them with slingstones long before their wicked blades
touched his armor.
Bill was nearly at the singing rope ladder, when
a wicked hand darted forth, and snatched at his cloak. He span, slamming
his loaded Sling into the Fox's face. The vermin scum fell back,
dazed. Suddenly, the fox's companions, a vixen, and another fox,
ran forward, trying to take advantage of the scuffle to catch up with Bill.
Suddenly, the vixen tripped over the unconscious form of the first fox.
Then the remaining vermin slammed into her, and they all went down in a
tumble.
Bill took advantage of this, and rapped his sling around
his paw, and climbed swiftly up the swinging rope. As he reached the top
and began to pull in the rope ladder, the remaining male fox, a big corsair,
grabbed out for the ladder, and nearly got it too, but as he was nearly
half way up, Bill shook the rope ladder, and the Corsair fell down, upon
the newly risen Vixen. They both growned from the impact, and sat
down hard. The big corsair crawled back and began to vomit the burnt
Skilly and Duff that he had had for his supper.
The vixen backed up too, and withdrew a short bow, of
rough vermin make. As she set up the arrow, Bill's slingstone lanced
down towards her. She jumped away, though, and shot her arrow back
up at Bill. He took it through his shoulder, but it was only a shallow
wound. As the vixen reloaded for her finishing arrow, Bill launched
a slingstone, one of his last, at her. It took her in the paw, and
as she fell, she loosed the arrow. It came soaring back down, and
got her fatally through the eye.
Meanwhile, the remaining fox, the male corsair,
was climbing stealthily up the sides of the Platform. But Bill was
ready for that, and as the fox came over the side, with a painful lunge
to Bill's middle, the warrior mouse kicked the vermin in the head.
The vermin was not hurt much from that, but he loosed his grip on the platform,
and plummetted down to the earth below. The corsair was seriously
wounded, but to make matters worse, Bill slung his biggest slingstone down
for a precise hit on the fox's head. The corsair died instantly.
Hmmph. Thought Bill, as he walked towards
the tavern. They always tend to interupt one's supper.
Does that clear things up for how defence works?
