My Ancestry
Introduction
The Stevenson line goes far back into the history of England, and were it not for a concubine
of one of the English kings, it would probably end in virtual obscurity a few hundred years in
the past. The recorded history of our particular bloodline begins with the marriage and later
conversion of James Stevenson and Martha Charles to Mormonism in the mid 1800's, and the story
tells about their journey to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from England and then, two years later,
on to Utah to join with the growing Mormon communities there. The Stevensons first settled in
Springville, then later moved to Carbon County to be employed by, and to live within, the
mining industry that was taking place in that area. My father and mother were both born in
this area, marrying and living in Emery and Castle Dale, then moving on to Manti shortly before
I was born.
The Peterson line (my mother's side) includes Irish, English, and Danish ancestry; but
unfortunately, not much work has ever been done to identify
persons and places that make up this
line with any clarity.
