The
Story of "The Rabbit on the Moon" |
We all know Sailor Moon's Japanese name translates to "Rabbit of the moon" and that the name is a pun off of a japanese legend..... ever wonder what the story was?? well here is a chance to hear it! at least the story that Ive heard ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One day, the old man on the moon looked down onto earth, and into a big forest. He saw three animals living there. A rabbit, monkey, and fox. they were very good friends. "I wonder which is the kindest of them," he thought. "I should go down and see". The old man changed into a poor beggar, and came down from the moon to the forest. "Please can you spare something to eat? Im very hungry!" he said. "Oh what a poor man!" they said, and they went off to find some food for him... The monkey brought fruit, and the fox caught a fish. The rabbit wasnt able to find anything at all to bring. "Oh my! what shall I do!?" the rabbit cried. Then he had an idea. "Please Mr. Monkey" the rabbit said "you gather some firewood for me, and you Mr. Fox, please make a fire with the wood." They did so, and when the fire was burning, the rabbit said to the beggar: "I couldnt find anything to give you, so I'll put myself in this fire, and then when I'm cooked you can eat me." The rabbit was just about to leap in the fire when the beggar changed back to the man of the moon. "You are very kind Mr. Rabbit! But I dont want you to harm yourself. Since your are the kindest of them all, you can come live with me" Then the man of the moon took the rabbit and carried him off to the moon. To this day, if you look at the full moon, you can still see the rabbit up there where the old man of the moon took him so long ago! ~The End
Credits: I read this story from a book awhile back, though I cant remember which one.... but the words most likely have been changed around a bit, so hopefully there isnt any legal problems here ^_^; |
