POLYLOC 530
Adhesive for bonding Castable Polyurethane to metals and other substrates.
Introduction
Polyloc 530 is a single-coat adhesive for bonding unvulcanised millable and castable polyurethane elastomers to metals and other rigid substrates. The bond formed during vulcanisation exceeds the strength of the elastomer, even though many polyurethane compounds exhibit an extremely high level of tear strength. The bond is resistant to water, salt, spray, various types of solvents and other environmental conditions to which bonded urethane assembly are usually subjected.
Polyloc 530 is used in the manufacture of various industrial items like Rolls, Solid Tyres, Castors, Wheels and other rubber to metal bonded products.

Preparation of Metal Surface
This is the most critical and important step for any bonding application especially if the bonded assembly is to meet severe service requirements. The metallic or non-metallic surface should be properly cleaned of all contaminants such as oil, grease, rust, scales, dirt, etc. by suitable mechanical and/or chemical methods.
Grit/sand blasting, and wire cloth abrading are commonly established mechanical methods of surface preparation, and give excellent results. These methods also allow creation of increased surface area, resulting in better bonding.
Application of the Adhesive
Polyloc 530 is a clear solution; no agitation is required prior to or during use. Polyloc 530 may be applied to the cleaned substrate by any of the usual methods. Brush, dip, spray and other factory application procedures have been used successfully. For brush application, Polyloc 530 can usually be applied at the "as received" viscosity. For dip or spray, better results are usually obtained by dilution.
The application of a thin and uniform coating of the bonding agent, free from excessive runs, tears or fatty edges is an essential condition for optimum bonding results.
Polyloc 530 adhesive dries to a non-tacky film in a short time but at least 30 minutes drying at room temperature should be allowed for complete solvent evaporation prior to the bonding operation. The adhesive film may be force dried at higher temperature for shorter drying periods. Drying for 15 minutes at 120oC has no harmful effect on adhesion.
Vulcanisation / Bonding
Prepare compound of the elastomer and vulcanise as per manufacturers specifications. The bonding operation can take place as soon as the adhesive has dried, or coated parts may be stored up to three months before bonding if protected from contamination.
