Grade: N-15
Single Coat Adhesive for bonding Nitrile (NBR) to
Metals.
Outstanding Petrol, Chemical and Heat Resistance. Superior Metal
Finish.
Introduction
Polyloc N-15 is a single coat adhesive system for bonding unvulcanised
nitrile rubber (NBR) compounds to metals during the vulcanisation of the
elastomer. This adhesive produces bonds that are outstandingly resistant
to all kinds of environmental conditions and corrosion, and capable of
withstanding extreme static and dynamic stresses. It is widely used in the
manufacture of high quality Oil Seals.
Polyloc N-15 imparts a glossy and lacquer-like finish to the non-bonded metal surface of the rubber to metal bonded assembly.

Preparation of Metal
Surface
This is the most critical step for any rubber to metal bonding process.
The metal surface should be cleaned of all contaminants such as oil, rust,
dirt, etc. by suitable mechanical and/or chemical methods.
Grit/sand blasting, and wire cloth abrading are commonly established mechanical methods of metal preparation for most metals, and give excellent results. Chemical treatment of the metal surface by phosphatising results in a highly corrosion resistant and bondable surface. The general steps are: Water rinse - Acid pickle - Water rinse - Phosphatise - Water rinse - Chromate rinse.
Application of the
Adhesive
Polyloc N-15 may be applied by dip, spray or brush. The application of
a thin and uniform coating of the adhesive, free from excessive runs or fatty
edges is an essential condition for optimum bonding results.
Dilution of the adhesive should be done just before application. It takes 30 minutes for Polyloc N-15 to dry at room temperature. For faster drying, drying ovens can be used. The coated parts should be used within 72 hours of adhesive application. They should be given another coat of the adhesive if they are not used within this period of time.
Vulcanisation /
Bonding
Polyloc Adhesives allow good bonds to be obtained by various curing methods.
All normal vulcanising methods including press curing, autoclave, and continuous
vulcanisation techniques can be used to get excellent bond results.
Best results are obtained at curing temperatures between 130oC and 200oC. With short vulcanising cycles like injection molding processes, higher temperatures may be used.
Post Vulcanisation
Treatment
Basic care should be taken in removing the hot bonded parts from the molds
so as to prevent any damage to the bond. The bonds will gain their full strength
after cooling and maturing for 10 - 12 hours.
