Grade: R-26B
Adhesive for bonding Elastomers to Fabrics.
Introduction
Polyloc R-26B is an adhesive system for bonding unvulcanised elastomers to fabrics during the curing of the elastomer. This adhesive produces bonds that are outstandingly resistant to various kinds of environmental conditions and corrosion, and capable of withstanding extreme static and dynamic stresses.
Polyloc R-26B is used in the manufacture of various industrial items like hoses, v-belts, conveyer belts, diaphragms and other fabric reinforced products. It can also be used as an additive (in place of isocyanates) in bonding solutions that are used for rubber to textile bonding.
Benefits of using Polyloc R-26B
This adhesive allows the bonding of unvulcanised elastomers to most fabrics without the use of isocyanate dips or pre-treatment. A single coat of Polyloc R-26B will bond compounds based on NR, IR, SBR, PBR, NBR and Chloroprene to fabrics such as polyester, polyamide, cotton, rayon, polyaramid and nylon. For specialty elastomers such as EPDM and Butyl, a cover coat of Polyloc 330 should be applied over the dried Polyloc R-26B film.
Polyloc R-26B offers versatility to the compounder using stock solutions. It is not necessary to prepare a solution for each elastomer used. There is no need to waste unused solutions (or prepare new solutions) for every production run.
Even with stock solutions, addition of small amounts of Polyloc R-26B will have a marked improvement in bond strength. Polyloc R-26B provides superior adhesion and fatigue resistance as compared to RFL systems. It even adheres well to RFL treated fabric or cord, giving excellent bonds to these materials. It can also be used to bond expired RFL treated fabric.

Application of the Adhesive
Polyloc R-26B has to be stirred thoroughly before and during use. The adhesive may be applied by dip, spray or brush. The coated fabric should dry tack-free in 40-50 minutes at room temperature. Depending on the type, porosity and weave of the fabric, a short bake cycle is often preferred to dry the absorbed solvent in the fabric. However, care must be taken to ensure that excessive heat does not cause the adhesive to react prematurely.
Pickup
For most applications, 10-20% dry weight pickup (based on untreated fabric weight) is necessary. As pickup is reduced, flexibility of the fabric is increased; however adhesion strength may decrease depending on the elastomer. To optimise both adhesion and flexibility, Polyloc R-26B should be applied to the fabric at a level just high enough to meet adhesion specifications.
Storage of the adhesive
Polyloc R-26B is heat sensitive. Containers should not be left open, or stored in areas with excessive moisture. Exposure of the adhesive to moisture and atmosphere can be minimised by preparing only what is needed for some hours of use. Coated fabric can be stored for a maximum of 30 days depending on the relative humidity in the atmosphere.
