Kakariko Village
From the drawbridge of Hyrule Castle, head in a pretty much northern direction and you will come to a stone bridge that crosses the river in your path. Cross the bridge and head in a northeastern direction until you come to a staircase that is cut into the face of the northern mountain wall. Walk up these stairs and you will enter Kakariko Village.
This village serves as a gateway to Death Mountain (which is where you must go for the 2nd stone - the 1st stone being the stone that the Deku Tree gave to you before it died). There is not really much of interest in this village, with the exception of Skulltula's House. In this house is a spider who used to be human with his 6 kids. Remember those gold spider tokens that I told you would be useful to collect? Well, here is where you get rewards for them. For every 10 tokens, 1 of the 6 spider kids will turn back into a human and give you a reward.
I'm pretty sure that the awards are given in this order - Adult Wallet (200 rupees max), Stone of Agony (Rumble PakŪ required), Giant Wallet (500 rupee max), Bombchu, and a Piece of Heart. Other important items in this village are a bottle and some Pieces of Heart. The main objective, however, is to gain access to Death Mountain. There is a path up to Death Mountain in the western part of the village. It seems easy enough, but the way is barred to all save those with business of the Royal Family (Zelda and her relatives). But don't give up! When you spoke with Zelda in Hyrule Castle, she gave you a Royal Letter to prove yourself to people like the reluctant guard who won't open up the gate for you. Select the Royal Letter with one of your "C" buttons and "use" the letter on the guard. He will laugh at you for a little bit and will then open up the gate for you.
He will say one more interesting thing, however, in reference to masks. This marks a key point in the game. For now on, the Happy Mask Shop in the Market Square of Hyrule Castle will be open for business. Before you proceed up onto Death Mountain, you should stop into the Kakariko Village Graveyard. At the far end of the Graveyard, there will be a massive tombstone with a Triforce Crest in front of it. Stand on the crest, take out your Ocarina, and play Zelda's Lullaby. A lightning bolt will blow the tombstone apart, revealing a hole. Jump down the hole. In the first room underground, you must kill all of the bats before you can advance. In the next room, it is best to avoid those monsters at all costs and to just run across the room to the other exit, even if you have to run through the dangerous ooze. In the final room, read the inscription on the wall. When you are done reading, you will learn the Sun Song.
When you have learned this, you can use it in the room with the enemies that I just told you to avoid. It freezes the enemies in their tracks, making escape relatively easy. Before you finally go up to Death Mountain (which is covered in the next section), I would recommend learning Epona's Song and Saria's Song.
