Youth Program:
We have two groups:
Tepee:
Tepee is an impact group that is designed to familiarize students with our program so they may become proactive. Although Tepee is a orientation group, they must master the requirements of this level to move up to Hogan. In Tepee they will hike and hold three groups per day, more if necessary. They are able to move to Hogan as soon as they can have a minimum of five proactive hikes. They need to accept being in the program and be able to take responsibility for their lives. Accountability, Dependability, and Proactiveness are traits we hope to develop while in this group.
Hogan:
Hogan is the advanced group. There are many privileges that can be earned in this group, i.e. different shelters, games, free time, privileged food, special supplies, and other fun activities. With every privilege comes a responsibility. Students will have the opportunity to master bow drill skills, types of shelter building, adventure games, travois (a better method of carrying supplies), Hiking, and most importantly, Self-discipline, Self-esteem, Teamwork, and Self-motivational skills. There are several requirements while in this group. If student is not ready to be in this group they will go back to Tepee (impact group). The traits that we hope to develop in the students are Self-confidence, Leadership, Excellence, and most of all INTEGRITY.
Levels and why they work:
Levels help measure student accountability and hold them responsible for their actions and current situations. Levels also give staff and student a written standard to monitor progress with progressive checkpoints along the way. Living the level system helps us as a program to look through manipulation and to see the true self.
