that I knew. That is what they are saying in reality. But they forget that
there was a time before they were created when they had to be propagated
by a Father. And the one in heaven is the father of us all. It is just as
eternal and true as it can possibly be. Works go on but until the key of
knowledge was restored I knew not why.
This key of knowledge we are trying to send abroad to all the nations
of the world. We are baptizing them by the thousands, by the hundreds of
thousands of people in the world for once they catch the concept of an eternal
family -- a father, mother, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and
on and on and on. Then they see the importance of accepting those truths.
In the heavens are our parents single? No. The thought makes reason stare.
Truth is reason. Truth eternal tells me I have a mother there. And these
boys and girls today will have a mother in eternity as well as they have a
father in eternity and it is a reality that is as certain and sure as you
breathe. Life is continuous.
And the last verse. When I leave this frail existence. And I like
the word frail because our existence is so temporary in this world. A car
hits us, an accident, a blowout or something and life is frail.. That's the
end of our life probably. A dear sister in the upper part of this valley
was burned to death last night, and a little child was burned to death. Those
things, they happen everyday. There are millions of people who have gone
into eternity because of situations which couldn't be helped by any mortal
man. By the individual who in any way received the problem. So we say again
when I leave this frail existence which is just as frail as water. When I
lay this mortal by, father, mother, may I meet you in your royal courts
on high. Then at length when I have completed ail you have sent me forth to
do, father, will your mutual approbation let me come and dwell with you. And
I think I hear Charlotte say as did her dear husband "Please let me come to
you, to be with you, to continue life together with our family."
Yesterday we had a visit from the Vice-President of the United States
and a great many politicians who followed him. The first thing he said when
he came through was "We are proud of you people. The Mormon people do a perfect
job in building families, home life, the things that are important." He
went on to explain that there could not be nations without families, there
could be no joy without families. He went on to explain the great program
that we have, and it pleased me very much of course to hear someone from the
outside tell me how impressive the gospel was.
When you stop to think what is a man doing? What is a man or woman
thinking about who casts aside the spiritual life which is more real than the
mortal life? Definitely more real. Why is it that man thinks they are smart
enough to organize life and to meet all of its intricacies. How worthwhile
it would be if we could convince, if they would stop to think about it,
convince them that this is the truth, and it is very true and cannot be left
unsaid.
I have spoken enough. I just want to express my love for Rube Larsen
;as well as for Charlotte Larsen and for all the associations we have had.
Now I want to bear testimony again. We know what we are talking about. We
"'Are no smarter than other people perhaps but having accepted the gospel and
trying hard to live its precepts and make our lives sublime. We do know
what we are talking about and we wish the world would accept it, for their good,
for their benefit.
Now may the Lord bless these sons and daughters as they lay away their
sweet mother. One of the most pleasing programs in this world is when we
get our large family together and they start talking about their fathers and
mothers and remembering the sweet experiences such as this son did today.
Those experiences where life was changed, where eternity was changed. So
I pray the Lord will bless these good people and ail of this body of
descendents who are here. That each one may take it very seriously and say
this is what my grandmother taught. This is what my grandfather taught. This
is true. I must follow the program and make my life sublime also. This true
gospel is divine. God lives. He lives in heaven. He has his abode there.
And he is infinite. I ask the Lord to bless this family and ail others
whose hearts are touched on this occasion and this in the name of Jesus
Christ. Amen.
Benediction: Boyd Bott
Kind Heavenly Father. As children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, loved ones in
Christ, we express our deep appreciation and thanks Father for the privilege we have had
in being here during this holy hour. We thank Thee Father for the wonderful life that has
been lived by Charlotte and for the many talents that she possessed which enabled her to
express her love, her appreciation to each of us, which enabled her to help us realize how
important it is to have faith and how important it is to obey those commandments which
Thou hast given us. Father we pray that Thou will bless us, that Thy spirit may always be
with us, that we may remember this wonderful wife, wonderful daughter of Thine, our
mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. We thank Thee Lord, but above all
else we thank You for this glorious gospel of Jesus Christ and the countless blessings that
we enjoy by being members of Thy church, for the testimonies we have, the opportunities
it gives us not only to live through life but for time and all eternity. Help us live in such a
way Father that we may merit rich blessings and always be able to thank You for all we
have. Now be with us Father as we travel to Logan and return to our homes so no harm
or accident will happen. We pray for these grateful blessings and give thanks in the
name of Thy Son, Jesus Christ, Amen.
Brothers and Sisters, the grave will be dedicated by Sister Larsen's son, Dr. Louis C.
Larsen
Our Father, who art in Heaven. In humility we bow our heads at this sacred moment
and by virtue of the Holy Melchizedek Priesthood in me vested, I do dedicate this grave
as the final resting place for our dear mother, grandmother, sister. I give a blessing upon
this grave that it will be undisturbed, that the elements will pass it by, that nothing will
ever happen here to mar the sacredness of this spot. That we all may come here and
reflect upon the great spirit, the great person that our mother has been in our lives. I
bless it that she may be able to come forth in the resurrection. I pray that we may all be
worthy to be with her at that time, that we may accomplish the things that we are here
upon this earth yet to accomplish. We give thanks unto Thee Father for the privilege of
being here this day as we honor our mother in the name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ, Amen.
