Howard Dwaine Dorough

Howard Dwaine Dorough was born on September 22, 1973 in Orlando, Florida to Paula and Hugo Dorough. He was born the youngest of five. There are three daughters, Pollyanna, Angie, Caroline, and an older son, John in his family.

Howie was always, and always will be, the baby of the family. Having so many siblings older than him, he had a lot of influence in his interests. It was his sister Pollyanna who got him into acting. She was auditioning for the play The Wizard of Oz and he tagged along. He landed the role of a munchkin (he was seven at the time). He appeared in many productions before the Boys, such as The Sound of Music, Showboat, Camelot, and many others. Like AJ, he can be found in the pilot of Nickelodeon’s Welcome Freshman and in the movies Cop and a Half, Parenthood, and Bloom (as a bully!).

When he was only three-years-old, Howie’s grandmother remembers a time when he was playing around on her bed sing Babyface and dancing with a little guitar. He doesn’t remember it, but knows for sure that his love of singing started long ago. He always favored singing over acting. He loved acting, but singing was his life.

At age twelve Howie started taking singing lessons. He and AJ coincidentally had the same vocal coach. Their coach introduced them and they became instant friends.

In between acting, auditioning, and singing lessons, Howie attended college at {name} where he was a classmate with pre-NSYNCer Chris Kirkpatrick. Though a couple of years in age separated them, they knew each other as acquaintances, but didn’t think much of the other. Later on they would find out how much they would get to know one another.

After many auditions, Howie and AJ met little Nick Carter, only twelve at the time. Nick had heard them singing while attending an audition with them and introduced himself to them. They tried out the three of their voices together and they loved what they sounded like. It was then that they decided they wanted to be a group but lacked the proper management and everything else needed to be recognized.

Soon they found Lou Pearlman who would give them the start they needed for the business. They found two other members, in Lou’s best interest, but the two left for personal reasons (one of them had voice problems that I know of for sure). Howie met Kevin at a singing competition one night and told him about the group he was a part of. Kevin agreed to audition. Brian followed shortly after that. And the Backstreet Boys were officially formed.
